HOPE BECKONS: #36

The Most Important of all the Commandments

MARK 12:29-31

29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'
31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these.”

To love is a command that every person on planet earth has to obey. Love is the cogent reason for life. It is the best explanation/reason for living.

Attributes of Love

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I Corinthians 13:4-7

Why do we need to love?

1. For God is love ...and that He first loved us.

For God so loved the world that he gave His son for our redemption. He showed us_(the rich and the poor, the young and the old, the healthy and the sick, the strong and the weak )_ love when we merited it not.

Same way we ought to unconditionally love all around.

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 John 4:7-11

2. For love is the only debt we all owe one another.

8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Roman 13:8-10

In conclusion brethren,

Do not let this act of loving and caring done on 14th of February end today. Let it be your life style in fulfillment of the greatest and the most important commandments.

May the love of Christ dwell richly in our hearts and radiates outwardly to all around us in Jesus' name... (AMEN!)
