Unhurt
Self Portrait
2019

Last year, I posted my self-portrait titled 'Hurt' which was about my insecurity with regards to my physical appearance. The image, which was created in 2014, is one of my favorites since it's like a summary of my whole life. I was insecure at the time of posting. But now, well, not really.

I'm less insecure now. I learned where to stand. I accepted that not everyone is perfect. I can wear my messy hair without the fear of uncivilized people calling me "kulot" (which means curly.. uhh the hair version of catcalling). I can go out without wearing light make up. I learned not to care about what strangers think. Because who are they? I don't know them.. but I do know myself better than anybody else.

I think it's always great when I read that people are less insecure about themselves. Society and our own perception have the tendency to bring our self esteem down and we have to remind ourselves that we're alright :).

True. It's mostly because of our own perception... because we believe what the society tells us :D

There's always so much depth and life in your portraits, as if an artist has painted them after months of contemplation and patience. The first picture is simply hypnotising, though I like both.

Thank you! Well, to me, they are the same.. just different medium. My works for painting and photography undergo the same process - conceptualizing for weeks/months, visualizing either by sketch or in my mind, etc etc :D

It is wonderful to come to that point with ourselves. I had to get a little older before I set myself free to go out as I am..... however that is at the time. SO freeing !

True.. you don't have to be older though. If you can do it now, do it. Freeing ourselves is a process, but we never know when are we going to be completely free.. Until we realize we are. At least that's what happened to me. :D

Damn that second photo hit me hard. It's so powerful!! The drama, the intensity of that look is so aesthetic. Love it so much!! I think I'm gonna save it just in case I wanna practice my sketching skills again. Is that okay?

Ah I just saw this now! Thank you! Making the viewers feel the emotions is one of my goals for my art. :D Yeah, sure. Don't forget to tag me or show me your drawing if you do it :D
