A Transition From Grass To Stone!
For years my parents have walked the grass path from the driveway to the house. The walkway was just grass. No patio stones, flag stones, bricks or gravel. When it rains the walkway is like a little swamp and you could easily slip where the muddy spots were. This all changed and boy are they happy. I was in between jobs and although patio walkways and interlock brick work is not my trade I offered to build them a walkway. I have some experience in interlock from years back and was still confident in being able to take on this task.
I dug down the grass and soil 12" deep because the soil was really hard and had lots of clay. I needed to be deep enough to allow for drainage.
I had two different materials delivered to the driveway. I used 3/4" clear stone as the base and crusher dust for fine leveling and laying the stones.
I used a plate tamper/compactor which we rented from the local equipment rental place to compact the base .
I installed two different types of stone, the main patio bricks and the border bricks.
I decided to add a unique artistic touch to the patio.
Then I installed a flex lock sand material in between the joints. After that the patio was sealed with a glossy finish sealer.

Good job, that's a lot of hard work but gee it looks good. Being the boatie that I am I love the yacht.
Yes, I missed him for a few weeks he was there constantly, our eldest son helped a lot too, the digging was the worst part, that took a long time, NS, especially in our area is SUPER rocky! Hey, you gotta see the before pic, this is what their walk way was like for the last 3 years that his folks lived there:
Wow, what a difference.
Did they have to break through rock or are they loose and can be dug out?
It's so good to see kids helping their parents out and good on Eddie for getting his hands dirty as well.
Yes, the rocks could be dug out with the pick axe and a lot of digging, some of them were pretty huge, they are now decorations around the property. Yes, Eddie is always willing to lend a helping hand, he did it for nothing in return, but Brendan's parents surprised him with a few dollars. He was thrilled!
I want to show everyone the Before photos! Before you dug the ground out...
