Luckily, I’ve never been in a gym where working out felt dangerous. I don’t really use machines very often. Mostly, I’m in the area with dumbbells, barbells, and all that. No matter how good a gym is, it still won’t have all the equipment you might need. As an option, you can buy something yourself, for example, weightlifting grips for women - Versa Gripps FitPro offers really good equipment for strength training that actually helps protect and strengthen the joints. And carrying them with you to workouts isn’t hard at all.
