Antique Sterling Silverware

IMG_7376.JPG

And now for something a little different on the precious metals front. This is an heirloom piece from my maternal great grandmother.

The pattern is Louis XIV by Towle. Founded in 1690 in Massachusetts the Towle Silversmiths made this pattern from 1920-1929. They are solid sterling silver except for the knife blades. Exquisitely detailed, craftsmanship such as this is not found in our modern disposable age.

There is an "H" monogramed on the hilts. I have a full setting for 8 but I have 12 spoons meaning it was a 12 place setting at one time. I have found places online where you can buy pieces of sets, some already monogramed with what you need. I plan to fill it out to the full 12 pieces one day. It will be handed down to my daughter, but she is 5 now so I have some time.

Enjoy, HM

That fricking awesome!! My grandma has a big ol collection of silver tea spoons and silver thimbles. One of her spoon sets has all 50 states on the handle. She is 95 yrs old but I'm not sure how old they are. Time to investigate and make sure she bows which grandson loves her the best. 😜

You better call her on her birthday! LOL

Nice set HM!

Thanks man. We use it everyday in the shop at high tea. =P

very nice set that knife is beautiful i would use that to eat my dinner every day :)

HAHAHA the weird thing is my grandmother had 2 silver sets. This one and another. I had never seen this set until after she passed. This is by far the more ornate of the two.

But again I have never used it either. It sits in the safe.

That is awesome dude! What a great way to hand down some wealth.

That is an epic set of silverware. Kudos to you for wanting to complete the set to hand down to the daughter. Generational wealth is where it's at!

Seems like I should have an epic meal to put it to use! Thanks for the comments.
