Penang, Malaysia – Every corner of George Town 💓

in #tripsteem6 years ago (edited)

The George Town isn’t located in the mainland of Penang but in the island. It is like the heart of Penang and someone even thinks that George Town is all Penang about. I don’t totally agree with that but it kinds of make sense when most of people visiting Penang just only stay in George Town.

So do we.

I can feel so much quintessence of cultures, cuisines and arts are converged in this amazing place. Can’t talk about George Town without talking about the cultural diversity: the China Town, the Little India,... It is represented through the old-style architectures, the foods and street arts...

We find it really peaceful when joining the people walking in the street, with the birds flying around, exploring every nook and cranny in the town just to find some famous dishes, going deeply in the long alleys to see adorable wall-paintings, …

I can say that this small town is really good at holding people back. The more you explore, the more you want to stay longer.

We go out in the early morning when the street is still deserted and the we haven’t felt the heat of summer. With a tourist map having all attractions marked, we start our last day in Penang.

Our goal is to find all the wall murals that make this place is well-known for.

The noodles of the old Chinese couple in the old quarter. 6RM for a local breakfast, quite cheap for a energetic start.

The Peeping Tom Cat on small alley along the Canon Street. Actually, I don’t have a thing for cat. But I love this one. Look both naïve and cunning.

Little Children On a Bicycle – This is one the the most famous murals in Penang. People believe that they must take a photo with this to prove that they actually visited George Town – Penang. Lol. There are so many people lining up for taking photo at this spot.

I don’t know why when I see this photo, I feel like we are also characters in the mural. It is blended well.

Brother and Sister and…. The stranger on Swing. 😊 It is fresher than the mural of “brother and sister on bicycle” but the cuteness is same. It looks really vivid, isn’t it?

How good that my outfit totally matches with the background.

Old Penang soy milk seller. Lets take a seat and talk to the kids. ^^

“Come out here and take it!”

Seeing the street arts here reminds me of Vanparaiso – the colorful city of Chile I visited, also full of wall paintings like this. The difference is the arts of Vanparaiso is prone to the graffiti, something is really strong, young and energetic,… while the street arts in Penang are murals, something’s vivid and adorable.

I love both and always admire the artists who created these street arts for us to find and see.

We reach our goal within a morning of exploring. We go to the famous restaurant to have some Laksa and Curry mee. It is quite nice, feel the Indian style.

I always thought that Kafe is coffee shop or some place for having drink, until I visit Malaysia, Kafe is restaurant, some place for eating. It makes me confused so much whenever I search for the food. 😊

The sunset in the Batu Ferringhi beach

Even though The beach in George Town is not something people come here for, going to the beach and get a tan is still a not bad idea. The seafood here is quite cheap but please take my advice: don’t eat here. I had really bad experience with the food here. The chilly crabs smell like it’s dead for thousand years.

hangggbbbe ơi. cho anh giới thiệu đi... Hihi

hahaa. welcome a. next time I may travel somewhere in South of Vietnam. arrange your time. haha

I fully agree that Georgetown is very multicultural. In fact, most of the time we were there, it hardly felt like we were in "Malaysia." It has such a worldly, cosmopolitan feel to it.
