Learnning a new language - Korean. 한국어를 공부합니다 🇻🇳🇰🇷

in #vn8 years ago (edited)
In my opinion, language is a means of communication. And knowing foreign languages is the way that helps people have better life and see the bigger world.

I put learnning several languages as a goal that I have to reach in next few years. I decided to learn Korean first since I have a private Korean tutor and I need to take advantage of him to learn as much as possible. :)). Hopefully, I will be able to talk with basic conversations in last of this year.

The way of learning

I started learnning Korean last night and haven’t finished Hangul (Korean Alphabet) yet. I see quite a few videos on Youtube teaching Korean and all they say that it will just take 30 mins to get to know and learn Hangul.

I don’t think so.

As English, I know that a person can learn correct pronunciation only by learning the alphabet thoroughly. So I spend more time to learn how to pronounce every single word exactly, or maybe, as exact as possible. :))

I have some ways to memorize the way of pronouncing Hangul. I try to make imaginations with words and memorize. For example:

ㅁ :It looks like a Mouth, so pronounce “m”
ㄴ :It seems like a Nose, so pronounce “n”
ㅂ :It seems like a Basket, so pronounce “b”.

...

The imaginations make those easier to memorize and it’s also interesting enough to not feel boring while learning.

I realize somethings

I also realized some words which is really hard to pronounce with Vietnamese and Vietnamese people may get wrong somehow since their habits of speaking Vietnamese. Such as: ㄹ ( they’re gonna confused between “r” sound and “L” sound), ㄱ (confused between “g” and “k”).

And some words that most of Vietnamese people can’t distinguish clearly and cant pronounce differently, such as ㅈ and ㅊ and ㅉ; ㅂ and ㅍ and ㅃ;...

Won’t repeat mistakes of learning English

It took me 18 years to be able to speak english well. Since I had been learning English in the wrong way for almost 18 years in school. And the last 6 months ( just last year), I started over again and learned myself in the way that I think it’s right. And it really worked. I can speak English now, the thing that I couldn’t do throughout the past 18 years.

Now I also start learnning Korean myself (I just ask tutor (actually my friend) when I really need help), and hope that I can do the same thing that I will be able to speak Korean after 6 months of learning as English.

Now is just the first step and I’m full of confidence. I really want to show off some Korean sentences, but you know, I haven’t even finished Hangul yet. lol.

Lets learn some new language, and start changing your life!

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

I realy want to show off some Korean sentences, but you know, I haven’t even finished Hanguk yet.
It should be really instead of realy.

Cool post.

As a lover of language, I must say that Korean is a very interesting language. As it says in Wikipedia ...

Some linguists consider Hangul the most logical writing system in the world, partly because the shapes of its consonants mimic the shapes of the speaker's mouth when pronouncing each consonant.

When I visited Korea about 10 years ago, I stopped at a bookshop and leafed thru a little book that introduced the Hangul "alphabet." Within about 20 minutes, I had learned and remembered quite a few of the basics.

Subsequently, when I was walking around Seoul or other cities, I found it very easy to remember what I had learned, or learn more, just by reading signs and menus.

Even today, when I see Korean, I look closely and see how much I can remember or learn. And that's because the writing system is so logical and so representative of the actual sounds.

Also, I love the way that each symbol comprises ONE SYLLABLE. Unlike English or other languages, where some long words have only 2 syllables (such as the 9-letter word "language"), while other long words have 5 syllables (such as the 9-letter word"itinerary".) Strange and inconsistent!

I'm glad I learned English naturally!! And if I had to learn another language, I'd choose Korean.

Your comparation is really specific :)))
They said that Hangul can describe most of sounds of human, and most of Korean learner can finish Hangul within 20-30mins like u. But I dont know what’s wrong with me. lol.

Lets start learning and see who will be more fluent first? Hahaa.

I still have plenty to learn in Hangul, so don't think that I learned it all.

Anyway, I'm studying Thai now, and it's going very slowly. (Outside of class, I rarely study, cuz I'm not that serious about learning this language.)

So, I'll think you'll become fluent in Korean long before I can string together a few Thai sentences. Good luck!

Học tiếng gì cũng có lợi cả e ạ. Học đi :))

:v hè này e sẽ học.

Cuối cùng cũng học à hahaa, tưởng mày phải học từ ngày đầu tiên r chứ

Ngày trước lo học tiếng a :))))

Học đi r dạy tao 😂

하이~~^^

나이스 hahaaa. Why dont u tell me that u are Jong? lol

I tell to jinback before...... didn’t he tell u??

Yea. He didnt. He has just told me about it. :))

Hahaa. Tiếng a cứ phải là đầu tiên nha
