2018-02-18: DIY? Because I said so!

Before Thoughts

My house in Texas was build in the year of Our Lord nineteen hundred and ninety nine and has been owned by about half-a-dozen families. None of them seems to have been particularly handy, because almost everything is "original", including these god-awful lights in my daughters' jack-and-jill bathroom sinks:

I picked up a more tasteful vanity light from Lowe's and tried my hand at installing it myself.

After Thoughts

After 45 minutes, two minor hand injuries, and a bit of improvisation, I finally replaced the light:

I think it's a pretty dramatic improvement in both brightness and appearance, but I'll let y'all be the final judges. One thing I have to mention. . . it's shocking how bad the craftsmanship is in these suburban American cookie cutter houses from the 90s. My Hawaii house built in the 70s is in MUCH better shape despite being more than 20 years older. "They don't make 'em like they used to!" is a real thing.

Red Thoughts

Its Sunday, so while I was elbow deep in drywall and electrical wiring, I also had a couple of massive chuck roasts slow smoking on the Big Green Egg:

I was able to stuff all 7 lbs of this into a single small tray for the post-smoke cook, so it ended up sitting in an inch of its own rendered fat and came out extra tender:

Blue Thoughts

The worst of the North Texas winter appears to be over, but now that the cold has passed, we're entering the thunderstorm/tornado season. My family is used to getting A LOT of sunshine, so these long stretches of rainy days are agonizing. It always makes me long for gorgeous days in Hawaii, but I was reminded today that paradise isn't always perfect. . . here's the doppler radar over Oahu today:

I guess I just need to embrace the rain and acknowledge that the sun will come out when it's good and ready, no matter where I am!

Trying the modern lamp sir :D
I think thats better, look modern
I see you make a little celebration again hihi ^^
Can i ask sir? Why you not put some vegetables in meet hihi^^
I think its became more tasty, because i love that hihi ^^

Sometimes I put sliced zucchini and baby bell peppers on the grill, but I rarely have the grill set to the right temperature for that. . . it's either a very low temp for smoking or a very high temp for searing. I usually let my wife prepare the vegetable sides, it makes for efficient division of labor ;-)

Yes, I agree with your words, heaven is not always perfect. Your words are very wise

Indeed. . . I've wasted more than enough time reminiscing about an idealized but inaccurate past as well as dreaming about a perfect but unrealistic future. It's more more satisfying to just enjoy the present moment and be grateful for everything that I have right now.

I really like the way your family lives, slow and real.

Definitely the new lights looking wonderful..! 🤗

ur daughter gonna like tht..! 😇

Hope u stay safe in rainy days..!
God bless us all...!😇
~Greetings from Tennis Girl

Thanks, I'm liking the new lights as well. We only have like 5 more days of continuous rain in the forecast. . . pretty soon I'll start building an ark and collecting the animals two by two. . .

great..! u r such a kind hearted person..! 🤗
keep the good working going..!!! 🙌

It's interesting that in Texas it can get really hot/cold and tornadoes and such. Real weather issue compared to being in a Californian and complaining that its too cold when its barely 45 degrees.

In Hawaii we complain about the cold when it dips into the 60s ;-P

I know right were are so spoiled with beautiful weather that we complain when something is out of the norm. LOL
