Today is the Thai King's Birthday
In Thailand, the birthday of the King is also considered to be "Father's Day." Yet, since a majority of the country still has an overwhelming fondness for the previous King, who only recently passed away, his birthday, which is December 5th, is still regarded as the official Father's Day or "Wan Paw (วันพ่อ).

While the official Father's Day has not been moved (and likely wont be for quite some time) it is still an important day in Thailand to celebrate the birthday of the current King, Maha Vajiralongkorn, who turns 67 today, 28-July.
Since today is a Sunday, so the official public holiday is moved to Monday, so make sure to save those bank transactions for Tuesday! I have been bicycling around and have seen multiple schools kids out with teachers planting trees and doing community service of sorts, all as part of celebration for what is generally regarded as one of the most revered Royal Families in the world.

Some would quietly argue that the country is having a difficult time transitioning from the previous King Bhumibol Adulyadej to his son and that is understandable. For most of the population, the previous King has always been the King as he was the longest reigning monarch in the world and was generally loved unconditionally by every single member of the country. Respect is compulsory and Thailand takes Lèse-majesté very seriously.
For my local community, most people are outside having small parties and generally being even more kind to one another than they normally would be anyway, so this is a very good thing. :)
I find countries that are still run by monarchy very interesting... probably it's because even as a 'democratic' country, certain families still run my country. Politics are filthy!
Happy 67th to the King of Thai :)
Interesting fact. It is illuminating to see how countries ruled by a monarchy look up to their leaders.
Happy birthday to the king of Thailand. Enjoy the moment
Thailand is a large country that maintains a monarchical system with a leadership succession that still maintains tradition.
As a king, he must embrace all of his citizens. The greatness of the king can be a unifying nation and state.
Happy Birthday Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn
I hope that Muang Thai will always be blessed by God

That's very interesting. The king is very respected which is great.
I really like the way everyone is celebrating.
I'm not saying I am a big fan of monarchies, or dictatorships, but I think a lot of times those terms can get a bad connotation that they really don't deserve. Is the King really in charge or is it more of a figurehead like England? Just curious. I think if you had the right leader with the right head and a good moral compass you could probably be okay living in a dictatorship.
