The worst airline I have ever experienced

One time years ago I found a deal that was not offered online and was around half the price of what I would normally pay to fly round-trip from Thailand to NYC. It was so good of a deal (around $500 total) that I couldn't believe it was true. Of course I had never heard of the airline but the idea of saving nearly $500 on something was just too good to pass up.

Let's just say I learned my lesson of the old adage: "if it seems to good to be true, it probably isn't."

The flight seemed normal enough at first but that is because all airlines have the same waiting area and pretty much the same counter service but as soon as I boarded the plane it was evident I was in for a treat: The plane was really dirty and blankets and trash were all over the place from the previous flight.

I also noticed that the seat pockets were overflowing with plastic garbage and cups etc because the staff couldn't even be bothered to clean up a tad before the next crew got on board.

Then the meal service began

This is not my photo, but I had a similar experience. I would be willing to bet that soldiers in the field get more edible food than was served on this airline. Oh and one other thing that really made my heart sink: There was no entertainment screens for anyone, not even in business class (which I was not a member of anyway.) The total flight time was 20 hours and of course, there was no method of charging any portable devices.

I figured i would revert to my back up plan: Since I had an aisle seat I would just take advantage of the "free" booze and get a bit drunk so I could sleep only to be told by the flight attendant that there is no booze on board... I'm starting to realize why the ticket was so cheap.

Also, although this didn't affect me directly, some of the seats wouldn't recline and others wouldn't lock in an upright position; some of the reading lamps didn't work, and others would not turn off. If you pressed the button to get a flight attendant to come to you, they didn't.

At one point in the flight a group of Russians who had brought their own booze on board (I guess they were familiar with the fact that the plane has no alcohol) got really drunk and started singing songs and then they started smoking cigarettes. Not in the bathroom, but just in the middle of the cabin. When approached by the staff to be informed that they can't smoke on a plane, the continued to do so anyway. Even though I smoke on occasion, this was just a horrible stench we all had to endure. Other passengers started to get involved and it was about to turn violent when they stopped. I was happy to see that security was waiting upon our landing in Kiev and these guys were taken away.

I was hopeful after stopping in Kiev that we would be changing to another plane for the 2nd leg to NYC, but alas, it was the same plane, even the same seat that I had before, just with a few different people in the mix. I was happy that they decided to tidy up the place a little bit during our 2 hour layover.

If you ever are looking at flight prices and one of them is much lower than the others.... be afraid. I know that going on a flight to the other side of the planet is never going to be nice but I have been on buses that were nicer than this flight was. I will gladly pay hundreds of dollars more to avoid Aerosvit in the future. They have a rather famous alternative name for their company that I am certain you can guess..... for a reason.
