The Wedding Singer (film): one of the better Sandler / Barrymore love stories

in #films5 years ago

You may recall that I routinely say that Adam Sandler movies are criticised to the moon and back for being unoriginal and he cries all the way to the bank because every single one of his bad films make tens of millions of dollars? Well this is another one of those situations because him and Drew have made essentially the same movie 4 times.

As per the usual, Adam Sandler plays a nice guy who everyone seems to like and basically is a virtuous dude who is successful at something that would normally not make anyone any money in real life - oh and his name is Robbie Hart and he is of course, a wedding singer.

Everything is going great for Robbie until his own wedding day comes and his fiance stands him up and this sends him into a hilarious spiral of depression that turns his wedding reception performances, that were previously funny and loved by everyone, into a bit of nightmare that gets him in trouble.

But then he meets Julia (Drew Barrymore) and they have instant chemistry but there is just one problem: She is engaged to a super awesome guy that Robbie can't compete with at all

i'm just kidding, Glenn is horrible, and that was intentional

I'm not spoiling by saying that Julia and Robbie eventually get together but there are some funny twists and turns along the way including a cameo by one of my favorite 80's icons (extra points for knowing who it is)

This is another one of those movies that has special appeal if you were alive and old enough to remember the 80's because there are tons of funny references inside. This movie isn't different. LIke I said Barrymore and Sandler would go on to make essentially clones of this movie another 3 times and make tons of money on each of them.

I liked The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates was ok, I don't think I've seen Blended... Would Billy Idol be the cameo to which you are referring? :)

you sir, are correct! :)

I'd say this is my second favorite Sandler film, next to Happy Gilmore. The Wedding Singer has a fun story and is filled with tons of great 80's references.

It cracks me up every time Glenn pulls up to the curb in his DeLorean to haul drunk Julia home, when he opens the door and the Miami Vice theme song comes blaring out.

Its' highly quotable too -- I've found many people who blurt out "THEY WERE CONES!" when appropriate.

Looks like the Adam Sandler is our young Aamir khan of Bollywood. The storyline looks decent but really not my type as I only use to watch action and sci-fi films. I don't know why but romantic movies are not my cup of tea.
Ohh... Btw I have a request, did you see time freak yet? Its a new sci-fi love story... If you love it I would like to read a review from you..
Stay well mate.

keep it going @gooddream.

The Wedding Singer is the first Adam Sandler flick that guys can take their girlfriends to see. It is a nice (and funny) comedy about a guy (wedding singer Sandler) who has been dumped by his fiancee and is soon falls in love with (waitress) Drew Barrymore who is also engaged, but isn't in love either. It is a nice comedy that almost comes close to a romantic comedy. Steve Buscemi, Jon Lovitz, and best of all, Billy Idol. A+

Wao What a wonderful and interesting film.I really love singing.Very great acting of this guy. This is also funny movie.Great comedy.Everyone so enjoying this movie. Thanks for sharing.

The wedding singer was definitely a movie I enjoyed. It was made during the "golden" years of Adam Sandler's career, before he started picking scripts based on where he and his friends wanted to go on vacation lol. Oh and the cameo was none other than one of my first bad boy crushes, Billy Idol! I still love his music, though he himself did not age so well lol.
