The dirt keeps stacking up on Antonio Brown

in #sportstalk7 years ago (edited)

To get anyone up to speed Antonio Brown is a loud-mouthed wide-receiver in the NFL. He, like many of his peers has a massive salary, and an even larger ego. He is well-known for being very difficult to work with and despite the fact that he is very handsomely rewarded for his prowess in the sport, he frequently throws tantrums and has very little respect for authority and virtually no fear of reprisal.

He was so difficult to deal with that he was recently let go by the Oakland Raiders and released from a contract that was worth $50 million over the next 3 years. He is such a jagoff that I was really hopeful that no other team was going to have him - however at the end of the day the NFL is a business so it took just a day or so before he was signed with the New England Patriots.

Soon after the transfer, Antonio Brown now faces rape allegations from a former trainer and woman that he first met, ironically, in Bible study class when he was in college.

Britney Taylor was a trainer of sorts for Antonio Brown and was frequently the subject of abuse and she quit working for him once before because of way she was treated by him. When she quit the first time apparently Antonio all but begged her to come back. It was not so long thereafter that she claim the rape happened and she stopped working for him a second time.

Antonio's own stepfather who raised him from child to teenager came forward recently stating something along the lines of (not a direct quote) "Antonio is very abusive towards women, but this shouldn't be surprising because he is abusive towards everyone."

Antonio denies all charges as you would expect and for me at least, I question the timing of these rape allegations the same way that I question the rape allegations against anyone when the accuser waits for a long period of time and then just happens to file said charges once the perpetrator is seriously rich and also in the news. I fully expect this Brittany thing will be settled out of court for a million bucks or something like that.

However, this doesn't change the fact that Antonio seriously needs to stay in line for the time being. He is being watched constantly and people are likely expecting him to implode. He was recently dropped from an endorsement by a helmet company and I wouldn't hold your breath on any other endorsement offers coming in any time soon (which as luck would have it is a helmet that he refuses to wear because he doesn't like it.)

I would imagine that there is a great deal of pressure on Brown to stay out of the news as much as possible and the Patriots are doing all they can to "make him feel welcome." Tom Brady went as far as to offer to allow Antonio to stay in his house while he gets set up in Massachusetts.

We'll have to wait and see. I think that at the end of the day that Antonio probably likes money a lot more than he likes being the boss and this will fade away. He suits up for the first time tomorrow when the Patriots play against Miami - who are quite possibly the worst team in the NFL this year.

I don’t watch NFL much anymore these days just too many of these running around. All my teams suck anyways! I wonder how long that kind of cash will last him. Me that be quite a few lifetimes. I can only hope his personality does not get the best of him and blows it all. Sounds like he’s going need some for legal representation.

He’s heading in the direction of Terrell Owens and Chris Johnson... pretty soon no NFL team will want him in 3-4 years, he hit 35 by then also lol

it's always amazing to me that people can get paid $50 million dollars to play a game, and still whinge about it all the time. They truly live on another planet.

yes - the planet is called ENTITLEMENT ;)

Didn't realize you were a football fan... or maybe you aren't but you just know a thing or two about being a decent person :)

hahaha!!! I am not much of a soccer fan but I have a 9 year old son who is soccer crazy - so do I have a choice? haha - I would like to believe I fall into the decent human being category LOL :D

Seems to me that 'lil 'ol Antonio needs a BIG ASS bitch slap lol :)

it's funny because previously, people just saw him as a talented receiver, now people are going to cheer when he fails on the field. It's fashionable to hate on the Patriots because they win too much, but at least their squad seemed wholesome.... not anymore. :)

I didn't watch the game, but it sounds like he did pretty well yesterday. I am on the fence right now about whether I will win this week. My wide receivers are still quite an issue for me. I will probably have a full post about it tomorrow.

i lost. most of my receivers did poorly and i got beat by 20 points or so. I subbed out Le'Veon Bell and that might have been a mistake. I dunno, I don't even know if the game has happened already.

No, we are about 6 hours away from kickoff right now.
