Gaming headphones "official" vs copy brand

in #ps47 years ago

Now I don't know if this applies to people in the west as much as it does over here but we have a tremendous variety of options when it comes to electronic accessories. Some of it is the usual made in China garbage that falls apart in no time and of course that should be avoided but there are a ton of "mid card" stuff that you can gamble on and hope for the best also.

A friend of mine had the official headsets (featured left above) and i was simply using the little earbud thing that came with the PS4 for free and that thing straight up sucks. I went online to find out that the PS4 "official" headset was around $150 and there was no chance I was going to pay half as much as a paid for my PS4 for headphones of any sort.

I have to admit that when I see someone in public wearing "Beats by Dre" headphones, knowing that they paid a fortune simply for the name, I judge them a bit and not in a good way. Nothing screams "I am a total sucker for advertising and will do anything I am told" quite like Beats. I'm not paying many times the price for something just so it can have a label on it.

In comes the NUBWO gaming headset, which arrived yesterday for the total cost, including shipping, of about $17.

I can't compare it to the official PS4 headset because I have never used one, however, this thing, despite being huge, is very lightweight, comfortable, has deep bass and an overall awesome sound. The mic works perfectly too and does a good job of cancelling out background noise. I comfortably wore them for 5 hours yesterday when I played Tera for so long that the game was actually encouraging me to stop playing (I am sure some government agency made this happen.)

Anyway, the final judgement from me is a conclusion that I knew I would come to because it applies to so many other aspects of life as well: These cheap headphones do the same job as the ones that cost 10 times as much. I would like to believe that the official PS4 headphones are better quality but honestly, since my NUBWOs have crystal-clear sound and are comfortable to the point that i sometimes forget I have them on, you tell me, how much better can the officially licensed gear possibly be?

This is just another example of the things that people waste money on and to be honest, i can see no real reason to buy the "real" headphones, regardless of the claims they make on the box / advertisements. I am extremely happy with my purchase and will continue to use this strategy in regards to pretty much everything for the rest of my life.

You're right about Chinese garbage in tech accessories. It really is a gamble! Glad you found a good one. They're very hard to come by.

I just shelled out for a really good pair of wireless headphones. They're comfy, but it definitely came at a price.

I feel the same way about Beats and Bose. I used to work with a guy that worked for a speaker manufacturer before our paths crossed. It was basically his job to tear apart speakers from the competition to see what made them tick. He would always complain about how Bose doesn't do anything special besides using digital technology to fool you into thinking it sounds so good. The actual physical design of the speaker had nothing to do with it.
