FF14 dungeons (MMO): brilliant LFG system

in #games6 years ago

There are plenty of things about FF14 that I don't like. I have mentioned these before but i will briefly talk about it here

  • too much running around for quests unnecessarily
  • involving emotes in a quest is dumb and pointless
  • no one at a low level understands the gear
  • the chocobos (one of the most beloved character from the franchise) are almost useless until you get one as a mount

That being said, I want to give a standing ovation to the people at Square for their "Looking for Group (LFG)" system as far as dungeons and other events are concerned.

By the way the above photo is of the first fight with IFRIT, which if they didn't have the LFG function on this thing you would likely sit there forever waiting for 3 other new players to want to help you. This is why I am SO thankful that their LFG (again, "Looking for Group") feature exists.

you can put the fact that you need a group to complete this, and then go wherever you want away from the actual instance (with some rare exceptions) and wait until enough people sign up to help you out. I would have to presume that some of the people need this accomplishment as well.

It is called the "duty finder" and it is a magnificent addition to any MMO. If you need to get into a particular raid or dungeon that would normally incorporate you knowing a couple of online players you just need to sign up to the "duty finder" and wait until enough other people also do so. It doesn't matter where you are standing in order to take part (for the most part.)

I am a long-term MMO player and I remember actually physically (in a digital sense) standing outside of a dungeon and digitally shouting "LFG-Healer-LVL 32" or something along those lines in order to get a group.

So far, upon my return Final Fantasy is winning me over on certain fronts and pissing me off on others. I have been told by veteran players that the game becomes "awesome" once you are past level 40. I am at level 27 now, so the jury is still out.

Just as a side note: If you like MMO's but have never tried this one they have a pretty sweet deal going on right now and that deal is that for $20 of the base-game purchase you can play for an unlimited amount of time to feel the game out. There is no need to pay a recurring monthly fee. Especially if you are already a fan, this is a great time to check this game out.

Sort:

how many hours you think you put into it so far?

I remember when WoW did not have a dungeonfinder. It was kind of cool because you interacted a lot more with people but you wasted so much time in the mainhubs in the lfg channel.

i played it before for a month or so, maybe an hour a day. Now i am putting in about 3-4 a day because i am fresh back. FF14 is MUCH EASIER than other MMO's like GW2 for example is friggin impossible in comparison. I think that Square might be going for more novice gamers or perhaps just fanbois of the franchise (like me) :)
