Booze: What's your no hangover limit?

in #life7 years ago

There are a lot of people out there that don't drink. I kind of admire these people and kind of wonder what it is that they do to celebrate anything (not judging.) I do know a few people that go out to the bars and don't ever consume alcohol and still hang out and have fun and i wondered what the deal was but then it turns out they were high AF all the time so that was kind of cheating. :P

Anyway, that's not what this article is about. I am genuinely curious what your "limit" is.

I drink most nights of the week. I would say that it is very common for me to have at least a couple of drinks 25 days out of every month unless I am sick. However, it is extremely rare that I get hammered and silly and I also know what my limit is. By limit i mean how many drinks I can have an not be hungover at all the following day. I've figured it out and if i stick to this plan, it doesn't interfere with my life at all.

For me, it is 6 drinks

For a lot of people, that probably seems like a lot but I have also been pretty booze heavy for many years. For me, 6 drinks is just an appetizer, it isn't a party. It is a conservative evening with a chat with the local pub's pals who also drink socially every day. For the most part, none of the people in this crew are alcoholics and everyone is relatively successful.

It is extremely rare that I ever consume more than 6 drinks because that is my magic number and hangovers have become more and more difficult for me to deal with as I get older. I discovered this "sweet spot" after 20 years or "research" and it is something I stick to. If there isn't a special occassion (and even if there is one for the most part) I cut myself off at 6 and then go home to drink a bunch of water and play PS4 or watch a film before bed.

After my 6 drinks I am still usually in bed before midnight and wake up every day at 8 to take my dog for a walk, eat breakfast, and then get to work. The alcohol also facilitates much more restful sleep for me so in that regard I tend to look at it as "medicine." haha.

What about you? Do you have a magic number of drinks? I wonder where you are on the scale....

I drink about once a month... but when I do, it’s party time especially in Vegas 😂... my number is around 20... Good times haha

oh wow. That's a lot. But hey, you're in Vegas and probably not for a Cher concert. I've never been there but really really really want to go some day :)

A lot of it just depends on what I am drinking. If it is captain and coke, I can probably have about five or six before I start to feel anything. Beer probably gets me a little quicker, but it depends on what kind of beer I am drinking. Some of them have a much higher ABV than other ones. Straight whiskey or bourbon I can maybe drink a half a fifth before I have a hangover. I was at a birthday party one time and someone joked you could tell it was a birthday party for someone that had just turned 40 because everyone had a drink in one hand and a glass of water in the other. Staying hydrated is key!

I would not call it hangover but when I have 2 drinks, the next day is a less efficient day for me.

i call that brain clouds... and i probably have that every day for the past 20 years :P
