Ulog 84: Detroit Version Of The Metro

in #powerhousecreatives5 years ago (edited)

About two weeks ago I made a post about our recent trip down to Greektown in Detroit and I saved some images for more posts to make about our day out adventure. And one of the topics is the Detroit People Mover. There are 13 stops along this 2.9 mile track.

We decided to go from the Greektown station on a round-trip ride; as neither of us have ever ridden the Detroit version of the Metro. Considering this public transportation has been around since 1987, it was a thrill for us to do it. We've ridden the Metro (in Washington DC) before; which was quite confusing if you didn't know exactly where you were going, but the Detroit People Mover was easy. You got in the car... rode the tracks and went in a HUGE circle around the downtown area. Some of the views were AWESOME! I forgot to take some images of the Renaissance Center and Hart Plaza for you all as I was overwhelmed with how smooth this trip was.

Most people are leery of going to downtown Detroit, but I can assure you... it is well worth the trip.

What a fun trip! Love those Detroit skies, can't be sunny right? Did you go for the weekend or just a day trip? Those high rises are pretty amazing to see :)

We only went for the day/evening that time. We spent some time at the Greektown casino, enjoyed from Greek food, went on this ride and walked about six blocks taking pictures.
Yeah... was a gray day but we had fun- we even walked through a down pour for a few blocks.

For business I spent a lot of time in Detroit when I was working, mostly in the suburbs. Unfortunately I never made it onto the metro. One of my first trips there I found out that one wrong turn downtown and you were headed to Canada.

Now for a little geek trivia note: Detroit has the distinction of being the only major city in the U.S. north of Canada.
