DEVELOPMENT OF SET INDUCTION

Last time we made an introduction on set induction, now we will be taking certain subtopics that concerns set induction, let's start.

1. Development of Set Induction

Historically, the notion of set induction was devised to help both pupils and building teachers. Through set induction pupils could have a desirable learning situation while the teachers could have a convenient atmosphere to demonstrate his acquired professional skills. A teaching learning condition in which the to teacher trainee has an opportunity to adjust from the unprofessional skills of 'talking over his pupils rather than talking to them'. The former presupposes as a situation where teacher does not establish any relationship with the pupils while the later alludes to the fact that there exist an established relationship between the teacher and the pupils. Here too, the teacher expected s some responses and reactions, as it is more learner centered approach while Tue former imports the nation of teacher centered method of teaching.

Set Induction and Learning Theory.

Research evidences from several psychologists agree that readiness for learning, active involvement in the learning process and the provision of suitable motivational techniques are essential conditions for effective learning to occur.

1. Readiness for Learning:-
So many factors come into play when one considers learning readiness. Several theories of learning indicate that there are different developmental stages of learning from childhood to adulthood. For instance Jean Piaget's work on child's cognitive process shows that learners exhibit specific features within each developmental age. One stage is supposed to graduate into the next stage under adequate learning conditions but in some cases, it does not occur in the expected patterns n for some cases, it does not occur in the expected pattern for everyone. Many factors control the child's pattern and pace of learning and of course hinder the child's learning readiness at certain developmental stages. Such factors may include:- Physical and mental disabilities, socio-economic status, environment factors, traditional or cultural traits, lack of facilities, poor teaching conditions, individual differences, physiological factors etc. Some children might be physically mature for Learning at a certain she group, but they may not be mentally ready for learning material meant for that age. It is not in every case that the physical age matches the mental age of the students. Based on these facts, set induction comes in as a handy technique to facilities the learners' readiness to receive instruction in the teaching-learning situation.
2. Active Involvement in Teaching and Learning:-
Best practices in education recommend learner centered strategies for instructional purposes. The instructional strategies that enhance the learners' participation and involvement provide opportunities for practice, application, evaluation and self-actualization. Such strategies utilize techniques and resources that create opportunities for interaction between the learners and learners, learners and teachers, learners and instructional materials. Some activities are inherently boring and as such the teachers need to consider features of activities selected during lesson preparation in order to avoid limitations on the participants.
