Gimbal Review: In The Most Beautiful Czech Town...Video Edit Included!
The market is flooded with cheap, yet nice looking mobile gimbals these days. And I have decided to try one out and for that occasion a special place came to my mind.
Being for few weeks in Czech Republic, I thought what a better place to do a gimbal test, than Český Krumlov - scenic town located in the south of Bohemia, the biggest Czech region. The town itself is one big historical monument well preserved to this present day. No wonder, it's after Prague on top of the check list of many tourists every day.
Well, now straight to the gimbal test itself. Having only limited purchase power for such specific filming gear, I have decided to stay on the ground and buy a decent looking Chinese product.
That being Hohem iSteady for smartphones. Machine looks well made with most parts having plastic/metal look and the overall handling is superb.
The real deal is an App you've got to connect your smartphone to. Well translated into English, with stylish design and cool abilities similar to more expensive brands and equipment. Most of it's functions work well with few exceptions here and there, like for example panorama mode or face recognition. But, for everyday use gimbal seems to be a well made product for a very friendly price - around 100 US dollars.
Following video is an attempt to get the most out of the gimbal in under two hours. A typical crash test, kind of a survival camp for this kind of gear. Sadly my smartphone wasn't good enough to get the very peak performance, but for somebody considering a purchase of a similar product might be a good example. Perfect for a short holiday or for kids to play around with.
