The story of Katalonia

After the last events in North-East Spain , i thought would be nice to learn the story of this region and how it became part of Spain.
The Catalans are on the streets and await their independence from Spain after the 90% in favor of independence. The referendum is sealed by police violence, as it is estimated that 850 people were injured by police intervention in polling stations .
The Catalans feel close to acquiring what they wanted for centuries to become a different state from the Spanish. The Catalan region occupies territories in the former Principality of Catalonia, the Pyrenees, the Propyrenees and the Aran valley, and has been a separate territorial entity since medieval times .
More specifically, from the 11th century AD, when the kingdom of Aragon was united with the house of Barcelona and the Barcelona colonel Raumondus Berengarios IV was engaged with the only 1 year old queen of Aragon, Petronila. They married when she became 15 years old and they got five children .
Catalonia stretched from Salsa to Liéda and Torzosa and was a major naval force in the Mediterranean. In 1173 it acquired its own laws and slowly the Catalans began to seek their independence. They stopped dating the region's documents based on the Frankish kings and began to stand alone from the rest of the kingdoms.
In the 15th century, Catalonia encountered tremendous economic problems as it lost much of its merchant fleet during the Catalan civil war between the King of Aragon, John II and the executive. In 1700, the last Habsburg King of Spain died, Charles II and Catalonia lost many freedoms. The Catalans supported the successor of the Habsburg dynasty, while the rest of Spain supported the successor of the Bourbon dynasty, Philip E'

When Philip II was crowned King of Spain, he abolished the old privileges of all the medieval kingdoms of Spain, including Catalonia, and tried to unify the country. Catalonia became the focal point of industrialization and turned into one of the richest areas of Spain. Since then, she has constantly demanded her autonomy, which was dependent on and changed from the Spanish regime in question. In 1931 Spain was declared a Democracy and Catalonia gained great autonomy, which was greatly reduced when the dictator Franco took power.
The Catalans were forbidden to speak the Catalan language, which they spoke since the 9th century. When Franco died and democracy returned, the Catalans began to recover lost privileges and claim their autonomy. A big step towards independence was made in 2006 when the Spanish parliament described Catalonia as a "nation" within the Spanish state .
In 2010, the Constitutional Court ruled that the term "nation" does not have "any legal value", with the result that thousands of Catalans demonstrate in the streets against the decision. Since 2012, they have begun to proliferate in favor of independence until the new Catalan president, Carls Pudgeon, announced in June that the referendum was held on 1 October. Despite the reactions and police violence, 90% said yes to the question: "Do you want Catalonia to become an independent state in the form of Democracy?".
