Fields of Wheat Landscape

Wheat Fields to Shoreham

On our way to Saddlescombe Farm this weekend, I stopped to take this photograph of the wheat field landscape.

Note the chalky Sussex soil.

That tower in the background is the Shoreham-By-Sea Power Station and you can see the town itself, where I had lunch last week, away to the right.

looks so dry but yet is still so beautiful

And it's still drive @tattoodjay. Another week has passed and still no sign of rain. 😊

@gillianpearce Hope it gives you some rain soon

It's amazing how something we see every day (the wheat) distracts us from the parts of the photo that we don't see every day (the ocean).

The mundane and common connect us. The exotic and different compel us.

Interestingly it's the other way round for me @sumatranate. I see the sea everyday but rarely wheat fields. 😁

Thank you for visiting.

Nice photo. Fields are pretty photogenic. Is that wheat?

There are a lot of corn fields around here. You can seriously get lost in them, as the corn is about seven feet tall, right now.

I'm guessing it's wheat @fotosdenada but it could be corn. A number of people who seem to know about wheat fields have commented and not mentioned that it doesn't look like wheat but maybe they didn't look closely enough. 😂

It was only about two and a half feet tall so would that make a difference as to what it might be?

Ooh, it definitely doesn't look like corn. Corn has relly wide leaves, is darker green, and is a lot taller. Around here, the corn is already taller than I am. :-)

I'll stick with wheat then @fotosdenada! 😂

I grew up in Oklahoma and that looks like home. 0klahoma, where the waving wheat, sure smells sweet...

Not sure Oklahoma has sea in the background though @spozone! 😂

Lovely photo of ripe golden wheat fields. It seems like only five minutes ago it was all green. This heat has been hectic and probably brought it on fast.

I wondered that @molometer although I'm not sure when wheat would normally be ripe anyway.

Hove lawns have been yellow for some time now and I've been wondering about them too. How bad does it have to get before grass actually dies? It would be a massive job to replace them all!

I grew up among the wheat fields of Kansas in the midwest. Pictures like this were the norm around this time of year. Now in California the grass covered hills turn brown in the summer. Same type of view but hard to get used to EVERYTHING turning brown in the summer. Nice photo @gillianpearce

We've got a similar thing here this year @steven-patrick. Hove Lawns are now yellow and I wonder how dry they can get before they actually die. If the council had to replace them it would cost a small fortune. 😢
