Exotic Macro
Spikey Leafed Flower
These rather exotic looking flowers are growing in the Church garden that I pass most days when I go and buy a coffee.
They look like something you would see on the Continent rather than in the UK.
Here is a macro shot of a single flower

Here Are The Buds
And Here Is The Whole Plant
Anyone know what they are?
Google is no help! 😂
The leaves are very spikey and it was quite painful getting the close ups. 😱

Thank you to @juliank and @photocontests for the daily photography contest.
Interesting looking plant. Do the flowers open more, or is that it? Whatever it is, it looks very much like a tropical plant, with that base.
That's it @fotosdenada. The flowers just hang down like that. 😊
Really amazing. I think that you should go more often for coffee because you know how find unique beauties :-) Greetings my dear
I don't think I can go more often @margaretwise I already go most afternoons at 3.00 p.m. 😂
:D:D:D
OK, so from time to time.
I don't want to that you would have a heart attack :)
Lot's of love
So, I threw your last image into Google Images and it came back with a Yucca, which are native to the arid areas of the Americas and Caribbean, according to Wikipedia.
The images look quite a bit like the one you have, so I'm going to say it's at least pretty close, if not dead on.
re: on the continent
Are you referring to any continent in specific here? Africa perhaps? The greater European continent? I guess it can have different connotations, which is why I'm asking. :)
That's interesting @glenalbrethsen. When I googled it it said it was a Philippines orchid which I know it is not. And all the similar images were orchids.
Yucca is much more likely going by the scratches from the leaves on my arms. 😢😂
When we say "The Continent" in the UK were are basically referring to Mainland Europe but the picture it conjures up is of the Mediterranean countries, a bit exotic, hot, glamorous that sort of thing.
It probably comes from when people first started travelling there on holiday and when we started to import exotic fruits etc, that we can't grow here like peaches, for example 😂.
No longer considered exotic of course but when we were kids we used to have a mandarin in our Christmas stockings as a once a year treat. Nowadays kids just disregard it immediately.
Oh, how times have changed. :) I don't think there's even been a stocking hung in our house for the better part of 15 years, let alone anything edible in them.
Okay, so Mediterranean countries of Europe. Got it.
re: peaches
Interesting. We grow peaches here. I've thought of your weather and ours being similar, but apparently not. I spent a part of late August one year picking in a peach orchard. Very large juicy ripe peaches.
re: Yucca
I was actually kind of surprised at just how similar the photos were that Google images produced because too many times they're way off. Not sure why I keep trying it, other than to see how far off it can be. :) This time, though, I think it's spot on.
What a cool flower and such great shots of it :)
Thank you @tatoodjay. 😊
I'd definitely have guessed at that plant living somewhere tropical from the closeups - the wider shot has plants I'm used to seeing in the uk though :)
Hi
Very interesting plant. I love the large number of buds, that’s just awesome.
The sheer number of flowers this will have is amazing.
There were a lot of flowers for sure @lalai. Thanks for stopping by. 😊
Those are very interesting flowers looks like a type of flower we eat here in Costa Rica.
that's interesting @raserrano. Thanks for visiting. 😊
