My new Big Green Egg!!!
I was very excited when members of my family pooled their money together to buy me a Big Green Egg as a wedding gift.
I will be having them all over to feed them as a method of repayment.
The store that they bought it from offered free assembly. But they did not assemble it correctly. The hinge and the lid were not aligned with the vent at the bottom.
I remembered to put the safety tabs on so that the spring did not fly open when I loosened the bands.
After I loosened the bands, I gently tapped the hinge to rotate it to it's correct position. This puts the handle at the front
Then I rotated the dome. This aligned the thermometer with the handle and the vent.
At this point, the bands were too close together. This could cause the dome to slip out of it's band and fall to the floor ans crash. I used a hammer and a punch to shift the lower ring down and the upper ring up
This brought a smile to the BGE
I was now able to move the egg out to the deck and light it. The first 3 times you use it, you are supposed to keep the temperature below 400° F (this allows it to slowly evaporate all of the moisture from the porous ceramic).
It was thoroughly inspected by my two dogs.
After lighting it, I was very impressed by how easy it was to keep a steady temperature with very little charcoal.
I was so excited about dinner that I forgot to take any pictures. To keep it simple, it was just some grilled chicken with a nice BBQ rub.
Dinner was delicious !!!
wow what a big green egg! First time I have seen one. Make most posts of the food now - I shall be following =)
I will be posting my recipes and the results as I continue to use it. :-)
Congrats!
Thanks. If it stops raining around here soon, I'll have some posts of the fantastic foods that I create. :-)
oh excellent - fire it up!! lol
That's really bad on the shops part but good your clearly very handy to fix it up
Have heard real good things about these will be interested to see how it is for you
I forgot to mention. When I went back to the store, they apologized, explaining that their typical installer was not in and the BGE was assembled by someone as their first time.
They offered me a bag of charcoal and a BBQ set.
I definitely learned a lot from the experience though. I feel confident I can fix anything that goes wrong with it now. :-)
Ok that was good of them
And yes a benefit now you know it so well
Welcome to Grill heaven! What a glorious day for you and everybody that knows you! Since I got my green egg last month I almost used it every day. This week is 3 for 3 so far! It's a fantastic grill and more. You are going to have so much fun with it!
