The lake house

Kathy suspected something was a little off when she opened the door to the new house she just bought. There was a very foul smell inside as if something had just died. She opened a few windows to let in some fresh air, and the smell subsided.

For the last six years she had been flipping houses, and it was her dream job.  She hated working in an office and when her father passed away, he left her a large sum of money. She invested most of it, but she kept some aside to put down as a deposit on her first house.  She would never forget the first house that she bought. It was a beautiful little house and she made double her money back.

It was a lot of hard work, but it was worth every penny. She quit her job and never looked back.  Kathy didn’t care so much about the money, but she loved the whole idea of turning something awful into something beautiful. She’s had her eye on this specific house for a very long time, and when it finally came on the market she jumped at the opportunity.

It was a beautiful old house with an extraordinary view of the lake. It was literally falling apart but the location was absolutely astonishing. She knew if she found the right buyer, she was going to make a fortune, but it was going to cost more than an arm and a leg to fix up this old place  She walked through the house and couldn’t believe that anyone lived there before. She opened one of the kitchen cupboards and had to jump out of the way because the door nearly fell on her head.

She had to phone Chris. He had to come and do an evaluation and then work out the costs involved to get this house back into shape.  She opened the sliding door to walk out on the deck but nearly stepped through the deck and jumped back. This house was in serious need of attention and fast.  Kathy locked the door behind her and dialed Chris’s number when she got into her car.

They had been working together for years now and he was working exclusively with her these days. She trusted him wholeheartedly.  She learned very quickly, soon after her first flip, that it was important to have a good contractor, and the quicker they were able to start the faster the house could sell. She made Chris an offer he couldn’t resist, and they’ve been working together ever since.  She told him everything that he needed to know, and he promised that he would meet her there in the morning.

Kathy turned the car around and pulled in next to the house. She had an awesome view of the lake and as the sun dipped below the horizon, the fleeting colors of dusk began to fade away. She sighed and wished that she could just sit there forever but started the car and drove back to the main road. She shouldn’t have stayed so late, but the beautiful sunset was absolutely worth it.
