The false impression
Peter and Jessica met by accident at a local restaurant. They've been dating for a few weeks now but something did not feel quite right. Jessica was a beautiful girl and she looked like a well brought up young woman. He noticed her sitting alone at a table and noticed there was no ring on her finger so he assumed that she wasn't married.
He couldn't stop looking at her and every time he looked she smiled at him. He felt an attraction towards this mysterious girl and he eventually got up and invited her to join him.
She introduced herself and the conversation started flowing immediately. She told him that she had been stood up and didn't want to embarrass herself by leaving the restaurant. They ended up having a great time, and he invited her out again.
Peter had not been in a relationship for about five years now. He was too focused on work and after his last break-up he couldn't put himself through the same thing again. Everything felt different with Jessica and he liked her company a lot, perhaps more than he should.
He had tried to take it casual but it was like there was an attraction between them that was unstoppable. Even though he felt attracted to her it didn't seem as if she was as interested in him. He had never been to her apartment and he didn't want to make an issue of this but it felt as if she was hiding something. He might be wrong about this and he might just be paranoid, but he was going to find out because this was preventing him from taking this further.
