The bakery - A short story - Chapter 1

Jenny sat in front of the window on her favorite chair staring out the window.  It was full moon and she could see the whole yard clearly.  She hasn't been here in over a decade and she can remember that she sat here every night dreaming about her future. Now that her grandmother had passed away unexpectedly, she was left all alone.  She didn't have anyone left.  

Her parents died when she was hardly two years old and she escaped the car accident without a scratch. Her grandmother took her in and became like a mother to her. She taught her to bake and how to look after herself. 

Her grandmother got married at the age of sixteen but her grandfather died only nine years later while he fought in the war. She was left all alone at the age of twenty five, and she never got married again. She brought up their own daughter alone and she was devastated to lose her at such a young age, but she knew how to deal with the pain of losing someone and Jenny helped to take away the pain of losing a child.  

Jenny was heartbroken when she got the call that her grandmother passed away.  When she moved away twelve years ago, she wanted to take her grandmother with her, but her grandmother had no interest to move to the city. She stayed in the house, and kept on baking.  

Everybody loved her baking and her grandmother could have opened a bakery and would have been very successful. 

Jenny yawned and knew it was time for her to go to bed. It felt wonderful to sleep in her old childhood bedroom and everything felt so very familiar.  The lawyer was coming over in the morning to sort out the will although Jenny knew that her grandmother left her the house.  

She fell asleep feeling peaceful and she knew her grandmother was watching over her.
