Steem Picking: The Pawn Store Sniping Edition

Can You Make Money Reselling Pawn Store Items?

The answer: YES! But it depends on the pawn store.

Today was national pepperoni pizza day so the wife and I decided to get a pie or two.

Papa Murphy's had the best deal, a large pepperoni pizza with qualifying purchase. The cheapest way to get this deal was to buy a cheese pizza for $9.50 and get the free pie. Not a bad price for two larges. It is dinner for two days as Papa Murphy's is a place where they give you the pizza to cook at home. Makes it easy to save the other one.

Anyways, while I was waiting for my order to be made I went to the nearby pawn store to see if I could find any decently priced silver or anything to resell.

No worthwhile silver was found, but a search of the wares brought out some promise. Mostly because of this unusual pricing scheme.

As you can see, they tell you right on the price tag what the price is - AND when it will go down! Wow, this is valuable info for a reseller as most pawn stores do get the initial pricing right.

Thanks to this easy to see discount label, I managed to find two largely discounted musical equipment items to resell. Then a nice clearance section yielded a very expensive power tool for just $25.

Here is what I paid:

Hilti DX351 Powder-actuated nail gun: $25
Rocktron Banshee Amplified Talk Box: $63.99
M-Audio M-Track Quad: $64.99

Add in sales tax for a total of $167.38

Now all three items are listed on eBay for a total of over $450.

When they all sell I will see a profit of $200. If I have to discount them slightly, I should still double my money.

Not too bad of a way to spend my pizza waiting time.

What about you? What was you best pawn store find?

Sort:

I got my laptop from a pawn shop. It was right after Christmas and I figured some coked up princess HAD to have gotten a laptop for Christmas and took it straight to the pawn shop. I went to several shops and checked all the clean looking laptops and saw if they'd never had any after-market programs downloaded, then I googled the computers to see the price. Eventually I found a gem for 200 bucks. I origionally thought it was a $400 laptop but after I got home and did some more research I found out it was a $1000 laptop. Score!

Nice one!

They had some laptops there too, but I didn't spend the time to research them up.

Pawn shops are interesting.
They usually overcharge for used merchandise, but they are also a physical store, so, like you noticed, many things don't sell. (to the local market)
But, putting those things on ebay, and there is often someone looking for it.

Good find on that nail gun.
that indeed was a GREAT deal... as long as you can find someone that wants that specialized tool.

Shoot, I already sold the other two things but the nail gun is still sitting there - and I have it at the lowest price! It will sell soon though, I feel it.

"Err-err--everday I'm hus-hustling" This is your theme song my man!

Oh yeah, that's my jam! :D

Nice deals and you're right, that is an interesting way to price their items! I don't think I've ever even been in a thrift store. It's always fun to read these posts!

Interesting. I've never stepped foot in a pawn store. I'd be a fish out of water there, but it could be fun to try if I could locate one here that wasn't so seedy. Do they let you test the items there or is it as-is for a final sale?

The beauty of a pawn store is that they test all items before they buy'em. But, yeah, you can test them in store or have an employee show you how it works.

I had never thought of a pawn shop either. They are just looking to get their value out of some of the products so if you know what your are looking for, it could be a great place to get stuff.

Hey, humans price things and humans make mistakes. You never know.

I upvoted your post.

Cheers to you.
