Painted Desert National Park
Recently I visited the Painted Desert National Park in Northeast Arizona.
As you see these pictures, you might be able to guess why it is called that. Actually, the name goes all the way back to the days of the conquistadors.
When Francisco Vazquez de Coronado led an expedition to find the legendary golden Seven Cities of Cibola he sent a detachment to the Colorado River for resupplies. Along the way to the river, the detachment passed through this area and named the land "El Desierto Pintado" - The Painted Desert.
Spoiler - He found the cities, but they were not made of gold. However, there is always the nearby Legend of Montezuma's Treasure that still hasn't been found. Anyone wanna go look for that one?
Many years later, route 66 actually passed near to where I took these photos.
I hope you enjoy these photos :D
Wow, wow, wow! I only got to Tucson in your state. It was beautiful, but nothing like this.
Just mentioned you in my most recent post. I hope you like it!

Tucson is where I am at :D
Amazing pictures and landscape! question, we have a somewhat similar landscape and it's rich in dino fossils...is there dino fossils in them hills?
I haven't heard of them finding dino fossils, but maybe! The place is protected from digging though. Maybe thats why there hasnt been news of any.
Out near there you also find all the little petrified twigs of giant trees that used to grow there. You can still see the tree stumps. They are called mesas.
I am sad I ran outta time to go over to the nearby petrified forest. We did see plenty of petrified wood at different shops though.
so so beautiful.. I didn't know they have a lot of colorful mountains in Arizona. I have seen them on Tabriz province when I was Iran.
Ive seen some amazing colored landscapes like this somewhere in China. You been?
No, I have not been to the one in China, yes they have epic landscapes like this.. But it's in some remote area.. I don't think many people have been there.may be I will find some info about ways to go there..
Cool place. Reminds me a lot of a micro desert I saw in Colombia called tatacoa
Got any pics?
Not personally, but thinking about it again did inspire me to write this:
