Chocolate Crinkle Cookie Time!

IMG_1852.JPG

Not Quite Opaque Note Of Content Creation Transparency: I wrote this post yesterday afternoon with the intent to post it that evening. Life happened. A whole bovine excrement patty amount of living hit me like a wall of unicorn glitter expellings. It was fun. So, this post was written on Thursday for Thursday, but is getting posted on Friday. Yay!

Tonight is game night. Now, that announcement might not get any of ya'll in too much of an internal twist, but in our household Thursday heralds the arrival of a weekly trash-talk, strategizing, all out mental gymnastics fun fest. There are more veiled insults hurled during our game night than at a standard political debate! That said, I am a believer that every amiable (or supposedly amiable) social gathering requires some sort of delightful comestible, and game night is no exception.

However, one of our dear friends is allergic to dairy. As much fun as it is to taunt him while we eat cheesecake and/or ice cream, sometimes it is nice to include him in the nibble fest too. Is food karma a thing? I don't know, but if it is, I have a poo ton of it! Kat the Compost Karma Queen! WOO!

Oh, where was I...Oh yes, yesterday, I was pondering what sort of dessert-like, dairy-free nibbly to craft that everyone would like to nosh on when it hit me: Chocolate Crinkle Cookies!!

IMG_1848.JPG

When my not small children were actually child size, many moons ago, I used to make chocolate crinkle cookies for them quite often. The cookies themselves are simple yet rich. They kind of remind me of brownie in texture, and they are a lot of fun to look at, and even more fun to eat!

IMG_1840.JPG

The recipe itself is super easy, and I don't know about ya'll, but when you have a pack of toddlers swarming your abode, the last thing you want to do is make a twenty-two layer, petit four, with huckleberry reduction, and a free range chocolate ganache. Heck, half the stuff in your life is free range when you have toddlers, Sharpies, your wallet, the beans in your kitchen cupboard, the vegetable oil currently soaking into your new carpet, etc. So, simple and tasty, check!

After Baking

Another bonus of this cookie is it has a rolling in something step. Little kids love to roll balls of stuff in other piles of stuff. This cookie recipe has a very playdough-esque element to it. And don't think that you need to have little kids around to enjoy rolling the cookie dough in the powdered sugar part of this recipe. I find coating cookies in a puff of sugar snow to be a very fun and imaginative activity. Although, it does cause me pain to not throw the little snowballs at potential targets. Although I'm pretty sure that my cats, children, and husband appreciate my restraint.

So, with all of that explanatory explaining out of the way, I present you all with my Chocolate Crinkle Cookies recipe. I do so hope that you whip up a batch, and perhaps tweak them in lots of fun to eat ways. I've got lots of variations to this particular recipe, but thought it would be best to share the ORIGINAL. If someone does use the dough in a food fight, could you please comment and tell me how it went? Just curious.

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

3/4 cup vegetable oil of your choice
3/4 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
2 cups granulated sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup powdered sugar

Mix chocolate and sugar together, then mix in oil.

Add eggs and mix well

Next, add in vanilla, salt, baking powder, and flour.

Cover bowl and place in the fridge to chill for several hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a cookie sheet or two.

Roll dough in tablespoon size balls and roll each cookie dough ball around in the powdered sugar until its coated.

Place coated dough balls onto greased cookie sheet and bake for 11-12 minutes. You do not want to over cook these cookies!

Remove, cool, and consume!

Ooh! I hope that you enjoy them!

Well these look very yummy. Perfect with a nice cup of hot cream with a hint of coffee. ( Im a coffee whimp, dont judge lol)

Yeah my now not so little son, Ben, not only has the peanut/tree nut allergy, but also was afforded the extra fun of the dairy allergy as well. Cooking for him is always a challenge, so I feel ya.

Hey, I wouldn't judge, I know a lot of folks that enjoy coffee flavored cream, me being one of them;o)!

Oh! Poor Ben! That is a double whammy of food avoiding tragedy. I have a feeling that with his dad being OGP that you have figured out all sorts of magnificent comestibles for him to partake in😊

Oh yum ... and I a love being called y'all makes me fell more complete and whole.
