Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

in #food7 years ago (edited)

It's another satisfying day in the Garden of Eden, and it's time to share another satisfying feast!

There's more than enough food for everyone, and it is our honor and duty to share!

We make everything in our sustainable outdoor kitchen using rocket stoves we built by hand out of dirt. It's very fulfilling to cook outside over fire, especially because we use fence panels that were otherwise destined for the landfill as fuel!

We have a great feast today with several fresh and cooked vegetables, and a special treat of PIZZA!!

Check out that creative pizza lattice!
Plating is an opportunity to make food more beautiful and appealing, and we take advantage of the chance to make a little art!

For the base of this meal, we piled our plates high with colorful veggies raw veggies including mixed garden and wildcrafted greens, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, carrot, purple shiso and other herbs, bell pepper, and squash. So many phytonutrients in one dish!!

We had a beautiful condiment of green tomatillos, onions, garlic, tomato, and herbs and spices. Tomatillos are a little bit sour and have lots of fiber, niacin, potassium,  manganese, vitamin C, vitamin K, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and copper. ? Yay health!!

Because we're still on an "off" day for the candida cleanse we are following for 3 weeks, we made pizza available to those who wanted to splurge with a little wheat and dairy. This slice has fresh mozzarella and iron rich spinach!

We also made sautéed cabbage to dose up on sulfur to enhance our blood health and DNA replication!

And a little rocket stove love for your enjoyment ?

Food is important and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to  inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to  food. We want  to remind everyone to let food be your medicine too!

This food looks so delicious! Yummy!

That feast looks fantastic! Id love to know how the rocket stove works, I've never heard of one before.

Check out the link in the article for how to build a rocket stove: it's got a frame of bricks & is covered in cob which is a mix of straw, sand, and clay.

You build the fire in the lower portion of the L shape chamber, and the flame/heat is sucked up into the taller tower. You set the pan/pot/skillet on top of the open tower (and ideally you will have built it with a little forethought for how the pan will set on there so that it is level and the hole isn't too big, etc). The bottom of the pot is exposed to the fire, so that's your heat source! The pots and pans in our outdoor kitchen get sooty, so we keep them exclusively outside and have a separate set for doing any wintertime cooking on the indoor wood burning stove.

You can adjust the temperature of the flame by the way you build the fire and how much wood is in it. If the fire is built correctly, it won't be very smoky at all! Of course, building a fire is a whole skill and art in and of itself - you wouldn't use the same wood in a rocket stove that you would use for a grill or a cob oven, for example.

With a rocket stove, you want an even but intense heat, just like with the burner on a gas or electric stove! An oven is a more even, convection heat that you generally usually use for a longer period of time. They each call for their own appropriate fire for maximum efficiency.
