Her Unrequited Love
Love has not always been pleasant. Sometimes, it makes you grow crazy. Sometimes, it makes you happy. And there are times it will paralyze you. This day I am going to share with you the shortest and the sweetest love story I have ever known, and this is the story of my sister Jhad who passed away years ago.
Jhad Lith or Ate Jhad was the first born of us three. She had always been very bright, expressive of herself, and impressive on the track she has chosen. She learned how to walk and speak at an early age. She has also accelerated in school because she could easily comprehend. I remember back in the days when she would prefer not to study but ended up class valedictorian, with honors, and got a full scholarship on one of the prestigue universities in the country.
She was in high school when she met her first love. His name is Jo Oliver. He was the captain of the basketball team in high school. They were both bright students.
Oftentimes my sister would skip class just to have a sight of him practicing basketball with his teammates. During intramurals, I remember my sister would always cheer for Oliver. She shouts his name so loud that the opponents' team would get distracted at her.
She would not admit it, but she fell in love with him. It was evident on her gazes towards him.
They were on their junior year when Ate Jhad found out that Oliver has a girlfriend. She felt sad about it but is still looking forward to be close to him. She thought of being friends with the man she loves is one of the greatest thing that she could ever do. I wanted to hate her for that because she sounded like a martyr. But what can do? She is my sister.
Jhad and Oliver became close. She was really his biggest fan. They even share text messages just like close friends.
One day, we all just found out that Oliver and his girlfriend broke up. It was good news to us all except for my sister. She felt how sad it was for Oliver so she tried to console him. There were times she would spend time talking to him and consoling him.
Intramurals came and there were a lot of activities. One of these were the marriage booth which had been a favorite of the high school students. I just took a break from the college-wide competition that I joined when some girls took my hand and blind-folded me. I was so confuse on what to do that I remained frozen, until two hands were on my hips. It seemed like we were dancing with the tune as those girls swayed up. I still have no clue who the guy was not until he started talking. I wanted to scream when I heard it was Oliver.
Oh my God! Why you?
I bet it was your sister's doing. We were both set up, Jhad and I. But she paid them double to take you instead.
I gulped. Why would all of the sudden came it to her mind and set me up with her first love. I just laughed when I realized that she chickened out. The most outspoken person I have ever known chickened out on this guy.
Before reaching college, she asked for photos with her batchmates. She even asked them for letters too. They exchanged letters but some of those were not sent because she got ill. I know that for a fact because some of her letters for them were still inside a box in her drawer.
When they both reached college, they separated ways but they kept their lines open for each other. It was stopped when my sister found out about her disease. I asked her if she told him about it, she said she would not. She would just want to surprise him about it the moment she is cancer-free.
It has been painful months for her not to communicate with him. It was even more painful when she knew about him leaving the country to migrate in Canada with his family.
And then she died...
The news spread out like virus inside the campus when my sister passed away after five months of cancer. The news just came late to the family of Oliver. His family is friends with ours.
It was til the third day of her waks when Oliver was able to visit my sister. It seemed like ths clock stopped when he started walking towards her and looked at her breathless. Tears start running down from his eyes while saying some words to her as if she is still alive.
I felt bad for him. I felt bad for them. A love was about to blossom when it suddenly rained, leaving the poor roses dead because of too much water.
From their story, I believe that love happens when you allow it to blossom and bloom. Have a great Sunday!

Marriage booth was my favorite too during highschool. I felt so sad for both of them because of the love that was untold. I wish he knew about your sister's situation long before she died. There are a lot of what ifs on my mind.
I also had a lot of what ifs on my mind. If she is still alive, she would chase off those bad guys and shoo them away.
I was also brokenhearted due to unrequited love. #umasa :) @gailbelga
