My food was delivered on foot, by someone who "opened my eyes"

What a great day! I don't mean to perve a bit but food is delivered here in Da Nang frequently by a company called "Grab" which is similiar to Uber for anyone that in unaware.

We are still under half-way quarantine here so a lot of people are having their food delivered especially since restaurants are closed to any dine-in service.

So I had some hummus delivered to my place which was coming from somewhere that was about a kilometer away. The process is simple, you order whatever, and then Grab puts the offer out to nearby drivers and whoever wants it and gets to it first, delivers the food for a small amount of profit on the driver's part.

I was unaware that people can actually sign up to deliver food on foot but of course their range is far more limited than someone on a bike. I noticed that my food was taking a bit longer than I had hoped and while I was not getting upset I did go through the app which automatically translates into the local language. The "driver" responded with this.

She also made me feel like I was being a bad person when she apologized and told me that she is walking fast and will be there soon. I then apologized and feel bad about it. I have no idea where the girl started from when she accepted my order and then had to walk more than a km from the shop to my condo. Sheesh, i felt like a real jerk.

Even though it took over an hour, she was polite and I genuinely believe that she got it here as fast as she could. In the end she probably made $1 for her trouble. I gave a very big (by local standards) tip because it was really hot outside and here I am in my air conditioned condo watching Netflix complaining that my luxury food item is taking "too long" to arrive.

Some times it helps to put things in perspective. I've realized from that one small thing that I actually am a lot better off than a lot of people. This girl, who probably makes less than $10 a day (on a good day) seemed much happier overall than I am, and she was at WORK.
