Lessons to be Learned - Indoor Gardening

in #steemexclusive6 years ago

Greetings Steemians,

A few days ago I showed a bean plant sprout.

Today I will share a new addition to the family, as well as talk a bit about the bean plant.

I have two pepper breeds, one is Tam Jalapeno (which have now sprouted) and the other are Hungarian Yellow Wax pepper (still have yet to sprout)
Here are the Jalapeno sprouts!

And here are the bean plants!

So let's talk about the bean plants.

It's safe to assume they LOVE the LED's (Light Emitting Diodes)

But what has happened?

You can clearly see a much smaller plant growing directly underneath one of the leaves!

Is the big plant:

  • Protecting the smaller one?
  • Covering simply due to placement?
  • Competing for light, not due to placement?

Here is what I think:

I placed these plants too close together, and so naturally this occurred.
The bigger plant will compete for light because of the advantage, and will win unless futuremind intervenes.
Futuremind has a plan...

I'll manipulate the plant, by tie down method, and the problem will instantly be solved.

What other "problems" could occur with these two plants?

Probably they will become root bound and need transplanting, and they may also need added nutrients later on.

Stay tuned for more!

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you're all having a wonderful day!

Much love,
@futuremind

Why are you growing indoors instead of outdoors?

A few reasons.

  • We have an abundance of garden destroying creatures where I live.
  • Potential issues with direct neighbors that I would prefer to avoid.
  • I believe garden looting could become a thing soon. (if it's not already)

Growing indoors comes with both benefits and challenges. Yields are usually smaller, improper feeding of nutrients, or lack of nutrients can make or break most plants, over/under watering can cause serious issues, and the list goes on. Research and vigilance is a must with indoor gardening.

All that being said, I still prefer to grow plants outdoors, but indoors is pretty enjoyable too.

"We have an abundance of garden destroying creatures where I live."
Why do I try growing outdoors? lol
I'm pretty lucky if I harvest any corn but this year I only had one or two seeds sprout.
Sorry about your neighbors.
If you're somewhere like Michigan I'd recommend growing some stuff like raspberries and chives outdoors. I think those re my two best crops.

I' hoping to be able to grow some lettuce and stuff indoors this year and maybe set up a super small outside greenhouse and maybe try and grow a few things outdoors in the winter.

Thanks for taking us with you through the life of your bean sprout. We are also looking forward to seeing your first post for Music For Steem! :)

I just entered
#musicforsteem 😀

Thank YOU for your kind words, it keeps us motivated too! Awesome song and we are grateful for your entry.

You are doing a great job. My aunt used to raise plants, but she died a year ago when i saw your article it reminded me of she , I wish you success .

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. I'm very moved to know my project reminds you of her.
Thank you for the kind words friend. ❤️

This is awesome! $4 on a simple (no offense) garden post! Gives me hope for my posts. I've done several hundred indoor garden posts here on Steemit, and maybe only a few have reached that level. I hope the curators will reward me for my patience. I've been putting out quality original garden content for 3 years now.

As for the beans, pull out the smaller ugly ones. Plant them further apart next time :)

I believe you will be rewarded for your hard work and patience. Things seem to be changing a bit on the Steem blockchain.

I recommend utilizing the #steemexclusive tag. It was recommended to me, and the steemcurators have been very generous and supportive.

Aside from that, we've always seen examples of over rewarded posts, versus posts that obviously take time and energy making nothing.

Without getting too much into the Steem politics, SteemitINC stake is being used to curate community users now, in my opinion this is a step in the right direction, and a positive impact on the ecosystem.

I'm thinking planting two in one container might have been a bad idea. I don't have much experience with bean plants, but I'm guessing it's a root heavy plant that is going to explode in vegetation.

Thanks for the advice on that. I'll keep posting original quality content and hope for the best. It has been 3 years of that, but what else can we really do?

Beans are usually either bushy or, um, poley. Bush or pole varieties. Basically short and fat, or tall and skinny :p Not sure what you've got there. For indoors, bush is probably better. It'll be an adventure!

You ought to be a research fellow in a university to avail your dexterity in plant science to budding Botany students and farming communities worldwide!

Aren't you taking the prompt serious??

Apply to a National University NOW if you not a professor already!

Haha, you're very witty and gave me a good laugh. 😄

Thank you for the kind words, I'm definitely not a professor lol. (Although a life as a botanist actually sounds kind of appealing.)

The prompt is serious, I am quite sure I made a mistake by planting two bean plants in one small container. 😔

Hi Jake,

The bean plant seems to be growing nicely. I hope your intervene will help the other plant grow too. I guess it's all trial and error. You learn as you go along.

Cheers,
Vincent

Hi Vincent,

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, definitely trial and error, and I find it enjoyable.

I hope you're having a nice week my friend, thank you for stopping by.

Cheers,
Jake

Hi Jake,

That's the important thing - to enjoy what you do. :-)

I am having a good week. Thanks! I wish you a great week too.

Cheers,
Vincent
