Time for Change

Among all of the Hardforks, the HF21 is probably one of them that I really cared about. I'm not pretending that I've been here long enough to say that I've gone through all of the HFs. I've been only here for about 20 moons and there has been about 2-3 HF (not sure) during my time but I never seem to be interested about them until this latest HF.

I've been reading many discussioins about it but I never really get to join on the conversations. I wanted to learn what the "old timers" have to say and what do they think could be the potential risks that we will be facing. All of them seems to have their own valid points which are made convincing by their analytical statements.

There are users that are not convinve that HF21 could fix the imbalance rewards distribution that is happening. This kind of opinion is directed to the 1st half of HF21 which is the Economic Improvement Proposal or EIP.

Based on what I gather, EIP is supposed to encourage quality content discovery & curation activity by amending the rewards distribution to 50% for the author while 50% for the curator.

If I were to look through an author's point of view, it's discouraging to think that my current payout will be reduced to about 25% of the total amount.

But If I were to look through a curator's point of view, since my upvote will earn me 25% more, on top of the 25% initial reward, then I will definitely do more curation for sure. I will spending more time scouting for contents that I want to support and curate for it. I've made a post about it many weeks ago which states my support for it.

Aside from the changes to be made on the distribution of rewards, EIP will also encourage the use of "downvotes" which is believed to be a healthy aspect of the steem ecosystem. Since downvotes has the ability to take away the monetary rewards of a post. I personally think that "downvotes" will not be accepted lightly by any user subject to it.

Based on what I observed, most of the users that being downvoted is taking it as a personal attack against them. Since "quality" is subjective, I don't think that all of us would agree to a specific set of metrics that can determine what is a quality content and what is not.

If I were to use my downvotes, the only posts that I will use it to are the ones with "plagiarized" contents, at least for now.

In addition, if downvotes is stake-based, then I don't think that low-stake users will use their downvotes against someone who has the power to smash them to 0 reputation with a single downvote.

Thise are my thoughts about the other half of the latest HF. When it comes to the Steem Proposal System (SPS), I have nothing to say for now until I gather enough info about it. I think that EIP alone can already have an impact to the ecosystem, it could be positive but it could also be a negative impact. Either way, I still think that the reform that the EIP will bring is essential to the steem ecosystem.

Let's hope for the best for Steem!
