Peaceful atom under control
For the first time in history, the leading enterprise of Rosatom in the field of nuclear instrumentation - Specialized Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Engineering (SRIIE) opened the veil of secrecy and, letting it into its territory, told bloggers about its developments.
Specialized Research Institute of Instrument Engineering, part of the machine building division of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation - Atomenergomash JSC, is one of the leading scientific organizations in the field of nuclear instrumentation and radiation safety. The Institute was organized by the Decision of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of April 19, 1952. The idea of creation belonged to IVKurchatov. Originally it was called Central Design Bureau-1 (TsKB-1), then NII-1 and SRIIE.
In the course of its activity, SRIIE specialists created several generations of high-quality and reliable equipment for nuclear technologies. The Institute proposed new approaches to solving the most important problems of ensuring radiation and nuclear safety at civil, special and military facilities for the use of atomic energy.
In the photo: we are in the laboratory of research and production of ionizing radiation detectors. We are shown a detector developed in the SRIIE and installed in the ventilation pipes of the nuclear power plant.
The equipment manufactured by JSC SRIIE provides the bulk of the regular monitoring of the radiation situation, dosimetric, radiometric and spectrometric measurements of ionizing radiation at enterprises in various branches of science, technology, industry and defense.
Information and measuring systems developed at the Institute provide diagnostics, control and management of reactor facilities, control of nuclear, radiation and environmental conditions at Russian and foreign nuclear power plants, as well as in research reactors.
In the photo: an extruder is an apparatus for making a polymer film, which is then used to make detectors.
The polymeric raw materials are filled in the extruder, heated and the resulting heated polymer mass is forced through the slit. So the film is born.
The Institute made a great contribution to the development of space and the development of space programs of the USSR and Russia. JSC Atomenergomash (AEM) is a machine building division of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, a manufacturer of key equipment for nuclear and thermal power engineering, shipbuilding, gas and petrochemical industries.
The company includes about 30 power engineering enterprises, including research, engineering, production and construction organizations. A significant part of them are developers and manufacturers of equipment installed at all nuclear power plants built in the countries of the former USSR, as well as at a number of foreign nuclear power plants (in Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, East Germany, Finland with VVER-440 reactors and VVER-1000). Production facilities are located on the territory of Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Hungary.
Today the holding offers the customer complex solutions, including development of design documentation, production of blanks, equipment, installation and maintenance.
In nuclear power AEM strives to be a complete supplier of key nodes of the nuclear power plant: the nuclear island and the engine room (in partnership with one of the world's largest energy equipment manufacturers - ALSTOM).
The equipment of the division's enterprises is installed in more than 20 countries, providing operation of 13% of nuclear power plants in the world and 40% of thermal power plants in Russia, CIS and Baltic countries.

The process of installing radio components is automated. The robot itself puts them on the board. Then the board with the installed electronic components is moved to the furnace where the solder paste melts and soldering the radio parts to it.

The finished equipment is quietly and peacefully included in the usual room and works. Here, the operability is checked and the equipment is checked before shipment to the customer.

First we were shown the "last century", where all manipulations were carried out manually. Here is the installation with the sources. On the contrary, a detector is installed. Then select the source, lift it and measure the detector's performance.
But this is a modern installation. Here it remains only to install the test sample and exit the room.
All operations are then carried out from the control panel, which is already out of the room with sources.
Click the mouse. The installation itself selects and displays the radiation source in the active position, sets the detector at the required distance from the source.
