The trick to looking strong

strong.jpg

Strength is always something that I think about. In my life, I do strong things. Most of the things that I do these days is with my mind. Problem solving, designing, communicating...but sometimes I simply need to "pick it up and put it down". As a giant man I naturally do things that may be perceived as difficult, but really for my size it may not even be proportionate. I have seen much smaller people lift much larger things.

When it comes to the idea of "being strong", I am always thinking about what it would be like to be stronger. To be able to lift more. Maybe it is some sort of genetic feature that I have and it kicks in whenever I see something that just looks like it needs picked up. Is it possible that my ancestors were strong? Through my ancestry.com results of my spit test I am 89% northern European white man. Does that lead to my need to lift heavy things up versus using some kind of machine.

I have tried many ways to gain strength. I have tried a variety of different protein mixes, diets, and exercise programs. I am most recently using a Sprouted Brown Rice Protein to fill the nutritional needs of a physically demanding farm hand.

I have talked about this many times before, and my currently "diet" is what is labeled as "vegan". Vegan is a label that everyone understands. It is simple. I do not eat meat or animal by products. Like I always say when I mention that is.... I do not care what others eat or do and I don't expect others to care about what I eat or do.

There is something that is deep inside of each of us that pushes us to be strong. Some are physically strong, and others may be emotionally strong. Strength is measured through action. When a situation comes that requires heavy lifting...that doesn't always mean that it is about physically picking something up.

So the whole point of this blog came from my youngest son. While we were working around the farm, and just palling around together, we got ourselves into a situation where I had to use some muscles. We were working on a brush hog, and there were some bolts that needed undone so we could replace the busted up blades. I got a long pipe to use as a cheater bar for leverage. As I was pulling on the pipe and slowly walking backward he said to me.....

"Dang dad, you look really strong"

and I calmly replied

"The trick to looking really strong is being really strong!"

Be well
