Crossing Off The Bucket List

in #fun5 years ago

Now realizing that I actually do have a list, I can now start crossing things off my list, starting with traveling to New Orleans.

That's right! I will be traveling to New Orleans in October. I repeat, I am going to New Orleans!!!! The flight and stay is booked and paid for so it is a sure thing now. This is the first time I will be traveling anywhere and on top of that, it's outside of Canada. I am totally stoked for this trip, still seems unreal though.

We (my friend and I) are still looking at the many things we can and want to do. The top of our choices is trying the food! Oh that flavorful food! We also want to do a haunted tour and check out one of the very cool, above ground cemeteries. Of course walk around on Bourbon Street and visit the voodoo shops. We are also looking forward to learning about the history of this place that holds so much culture.

So why New Orleans? In one of my old favorite vampire books, it talked a lot about New Orleans. The time and place was of old Bourbon Street and it just sparked my curiosity of this actual place.
Then seeing what this place holds through the creep and cool, the music and food, the fun and celebrated times. It just holds so much in that area.

What else is on my bucket list...

  1. I want to see Cirque Berzerk.

I first stumbled upon this creepy, gothic, dark style circus on tv. I can't tell you how many times I watched that one show. It was a story not just tricks. It was of a woman's journey through suicide and love. It was intense and sexy! The costume, the dances, the makeup, the stunts, the fun, not your average cirque.

  1. Travel to Scotland.

Such a beautiful place to see. It holds such romanticism with the scenic views of the mountains and old history. I dream of visiting a place that could take me back to years ago, touching the stones of old castles that has also been touched by historical people. If you're not sure what I'm talking about then check out this picture from pixabay.com

Also just incase you haven't watched the series, go watch Highlander on Netflix. It shows so much of Scotland and shares good history... Also be prepared for some adult scenes 😉

  1. Learn to play the violin.

It has been a year since I've been gifted a violin and still haven't found a teacher. I know there are YouTube videos for it but it isn't the same as learning face to face. If I do something incorrectly I don't have a person to correct me. I may have to settle after all.

  1. Not be afraid to be me.

I know that sounds silly but with having to live where I do, it's not so accepted to be my gothic self and I am just tired of the talk it creates. Living in the city was much easier for that. I want to be brave enough to do it and not just wait for Halloween season to do it. As with bravery, it would mean I also don't care what people think and I won't get nasty when talking with the people that like to mock those that are different. I tend to have a bad mouth when it comes to people like that which could also get me in trouble. So usually I just stay away....

  1. See a killer whale.

Orcas are my favorite of the aquatic animals since I was a kid. Such beautiful black and white magestic species and yet fierce, the wolves of the ocean. I could elaborate but I am sure you all know something about this amazing whale.

So far that completes my bucket list. The more I find myself in this life the more I can add to the list.

So what's on your bucket list??

Oh you will LOVE New Orleans! We spent a couple of months there in our camperized bus, meeting with our musician friendswho were busking on the street and doing really well. This was over 25 years ago so things may have changed but it was a serious party city and the partying seemed to carry on onto the streets. We were there just before Mardi Gras but left the city for a few days for it got pretty crazy at actual Mardi Gras day - we just did the pre Mardi Gras!
Hope you have a fab time! And hope you get to check more of your list!

We are avoiding Mardi Gras as well. Must have been crazy just before though! I am very excited to see the place and see what it will be like. We might just have a night of partying and not just touring, have to see the safety of things first though as it definitely seems to be party city! Tha k you for coming by!

New Orleans must be very beautiful and mysterious:) I think the book is interview with a vampire? There was a lot of New Orleans there:) Good luck with crossing our everything on your bucket list, i think the Orca will be the hardest, lol.

You might be right with the book. I am very bad with remembering titles even though it's a favorite. I have read many vampire books which makes it hard to remember lol.

Thank you for wishing me luck with the bucket list :)

I am pretty sure this is the one:) I should make a bucket list too, i feel like i am not having any great targets in my life, lol.

Most likely lol, I will have to read it again just to be sure 😋 can't go wrong with reading a vampire book again hehe.

I hope you do. If anything, the planning for events is fun, I do that sometimes, just venturing on the net 'fake' planning. Haha I'm a loser that way sometimes. 😅

Planning and dreaming is the most fun, i do it myself a lot too, lol. Funny thing is that most of the times when you get to the destination things are not as you imagined them:) So fake planning does not make you a loser,in your mind you are always a winner, lol.

Ha! I thought I was alone in doing that lol.

I'm thinking most of the time it would be surreal when arriving. There are many ways to see things and I plan on trying to see it in all different kinds of ways.

You are not alone, lol. I like it too but what i like the most is seeing the same things in a different way. Sometimes i am very much surprised:)

Ah the sweet sound a violin makes. I’ve not played once since I was a kid. I can still hear the notes and my finger wants to move to the correct position on an invisible one. Once you get over the basics than you can move onto more self-study and find your style. I hope you find a teacher.

Thank you! I hope so too.

I look forward to learning such an interesting instrument.

It looks like you will have fun in Nee Orleans.
Be sure to eatting lots of cajun food and watch out for alligators !

I hope so!

I will definitely eat cajun, Flavor galore! Not sure about the alligators but I have been told that people eat them there! :O

Hope you have a great time in New Orleans & Scotland! The violin produces such emotionally compelling music, sad at times and joyous at other times. One of my favorites for sure. :)

Thank you. Scotland is but a dream, if I get there it will be amazing!

You understand exactly why I enjoy the violin and wish of learning it ^_^

I got to visit St. Louis Cemetery last year with Crim and Choo. If you need any suggestions, feel free to ask away! Been round these parts pretty much my whole life. The locals are mostly super friendly down here... just don't get stuck in the 9th ward at night, it's pretty dicey. If you stay anywhere near the garden district it's basically the tourist area.

Nice!

If you do want to suggest anything, I would appreciate that. So far I am just seeing tours that talk about the history, some haunted tours but I am sure there is much more to do. I am just not sure where to look, even though I have been looking.

I will keep in mind to stay away from that area for sure! And was thinking of staying indoors at night too.

Bourbon Street at night is one of the biggest draws to the city if you're into the night life at all. It's an experience. St. Louis Cemetery is pretty amazing and it's usually pretty free of tourists. There are bigger cemeteries though. Museum of Death is less than 5 minutes from St. Louis Cemetery. If you want good food, shit... where to even begin... Ruby Slipper is nice and it's all over NOLA, all of the local places are probably going to blow away most food that you've had in restaurants (personal opinion, but I've traveled around the U.S. and tried plenty of restaurants and it's basically no contest). Just walking around the garden district, the French Quarter, or the River Walk during the day can be fun too. In general, it's hard to have a bad time taking a trip to NOLA unless there's a hurricane going on.

For sure Bourbon street is a must, but thought that night time would be a bad time because of how things could be sketchy.

Museum of Death is a must! I haven't heard of it yet but with you telling me, omg who wouldnt?

I will make note of going to the Ruby Slipper. It sounds interesting with just that name.

We are making it there just after hurricane season apparently. Hoping we are lucky to not catch any.

Bourbon at night is, in my opinion, no more dangerous than going to a bar. Sure someone might get drunk and make an ass out of themselves, but its pretty heavily patrolled by mounted cops, so it really doesn't get out of hand except during Mardi Gras. I generally advice people to not go during Mardi Gras as it's just pure chaos. Crim did a post from walking around Bourbon at night on her blog within the last 6 months, so that's probably like 4 or 5 posts back if you wanna see it, but that was during a festival, so it was more packed than what you'll probably see.

That's good to know, would suck a bit for just drinking indoors in our hotel room lol.

I'll go check out her post for sure! Thanks for helping out and sharing some tips with me. I greatly appreciate it.
