A Witch in the Kitchen: "Delicious Canned Sardines - With a Spicy Touch!"

in #food5 years ago

Hello Dear Witches...!

For some time now I have tried to avoid canned foods or foods that have a high content of chemicals and preservatives, thus trying to have a more natural diet for myself, for My Mathias and for my parents, this weekend when I went to the center for the vegetables, I found a truck selling fresh sardines at a really good price, I couldn't resist the price so I bought a good amount to take home.

The challenge came when I got home, thinking that I was going to prepare 3 kilos of sardines jajaja, if I know, buy many, they were very cheap, imagine that with what a small tin of sardines costs, I could buy these 3 kilos. After thinking a lot about how to prepare them it occurred to me to make them in preserves, which I had never done before, so I set out to investigate and got many methods, from baked to steamed, and the one that most caught my attention and seemed to me the most suitable method was to make them in my pressure cooker an express cooker, as some also know it. A slow process but without a doubt it will give us a perfect result.

The good thing about making our own canned sardines, is that we can add what we want, spicy, lemon, oil, tomato sauce, in short, whatever we want, the process will always be the same, and throughout the cooking, the flavor will be much better. Come with me and I'll show you how you can make them yourself. Enjoy! .

Ingredients

  • 2 Kg of clean sardines, without heads or tails.
  • 2 Mature tomatoes
  • 2 Sweet peppers.
  • 3 chili peppers.
  • 3 Medium onions.
  • 5 Laurel leaves.
  • ! Cup of lemon juice.
  • 1 cup sunflower oil.
  • 1 Cup of water.
  • Salt to taste

  • Preparation

    .
    • Difficulty level: Low
    • Preparation time: 15 Minutes
    • Baking time: 180 Minutes

    • It is important to clean our sardines very well, and remove heads and tails (although there are those who leave them, but personally, I do not like them), shell and clean remove the entrails. We chop the tomatoes, the onions and the peppers, the hot pepper we only cut them to the middle, we mix everything and we reserve, in our pressure cooker we begin by adding half a cup of oil.

We continue adding half a cup of the lemon juice and half a cup of water, and we begin to place the sardines and a couple of bay leaves, and salt.

We will continue adding layers of sardines and chopped vegetables, until we finish. At the end we will add the half cup of oil, lemon and water that we have left.

Take our covered pressure cooker to the fire and cook over high heat until it begins to sound, this will take about 15 minutes, at that time we will lower the fire to the minimum, and cook for 3 hours. Let them cool completely before taking them out of the pot.

The cooking time and the power of the fire, are the ones that will leave us perfect preserved sardines, whole but when we eat them they fall apart, the same or even better than the ones we buy in the store. Perfect to accompany a good toasted bread, or delicious hot arepas. I kept them in plastic containers with some of the sauce and oil resulting from cooking, the truth is that I loved them, their taste is delicious and their texture is spectacular. It is undoubtedly a recipe that I will repeat several times.

Remember that the sardine is a fish rich in omega 3 fatty acids, ideal for combating bad cholesterol, triglycerides and cardiovascular diseases, in addition to providing different vitamins and minerals to our body, this is undoubtedly one of the goodness that nature gives us.

And you, with what would you eat these delicious canned sardines?

I love sardines. Occasionally i will buy thr canned sardines if im not up for cooking. Love eating them with warm bowl of rice. Now you have got me thinking of cooking fresh sardines too. Yay! Thank you.

Made with loving care. I think you can now make your own brand of sardines. I'd like mine extra hot please lol.

I am not a fan of sardines, but my husband LOVES them!
Wonder if he'd like this dish??

Normally I'm all into the recipes you share, but I need to admit I have a hard time with sardines. Sorry. :) My dad, however, loves them, and used to make sandwiches out of them. He'd always have a stock of the tinned sardines in his pantry. I sometimes used to wonder if he did that just to spite me, but he did enjoy them, so perhaps it had nothing to do with me at all. :)

I didn't like them at all, I really eat fish and especially sardines recently, I'm not very friendly to their strong smell, but the benefits they bring to my health make me want it in an obligatory way so to speak jajaja. And at home also used to have many in the pantry, in my case was my great-grandfather who loved them.

I am not likely to see any fresh sardines up here in the highlands of Johannesburg, but I loved how you took the trouble to create a beautiful but also easy to follow recipe post.

I am so fed up seeing all those posts that tell us they will show us how to make xyz and once I am in, all there is, is a photo and maybe a link. Links I do not need, I can search my own if that is what I want - so your post is doubly appreciated.

It's good to read this kind of comments, at the end of the day that's what I'm looking for, I hate it when I search for recipes on the internet and they only show me an image, and not the process, that's why I decided to do my post this way, it's something more instructive!

This cooking method can be used with other fish, such as tuna, jack mackerel or any blue fish!

      The presentation looks exquisite

      Thanks for sharing with us!
