Edinburgh Urban Gothic
So here's another entry for one of @juliank's daily contest themes. Today is Cityscape. So here's a shot of Edinburgh's city centre. The foreground is the Calton hill cemetery which features a statue of Abraham Lincoln, I can't totally remember but I think it's to commemorate all the Scots that fought alongside their American bros in the civil war. don't worry, I will fact check that in a future post where I feature the statue.. It's one of those things that when you encounter it you think 'what the hell is this doing here?'. It's a bit random.
Behind the cemetery is north bridge, the main bridge connecting the old and new town, underneath it is Waverley train station, the main central station here.. fun fact: the area between the two parts of the city (old and new town) used to be a small loch, that they used for witch trials.. more on that in a future post! North bridge is also a popular spot for suicides (though thankfully not any recently) and happens to be the route I walk to and from work every day.
The building at the end of the bridge .. that's the Scotsman Hotel. I think its called that because that was the first HQ for the Scotsman Newspaper (though I could be way off .. i really should google that ..googles.. yeah i was right). Fun fact .. well maybe not-so-fun-fact: a Russian couple committed suicide by cyanide poisoning in one of the rooms there about 5 years ago. Serious Romeo and Juliet shit right there ..

Thanks for Looking.
