1. Binance LCX Launches Fiat-to-Crypto Exchange in Liechtenstein

Binance LCX, a joint venture between Binance and Liechtenstein Cryptoassets Exchange (LCX), has announced the launch of a fiat-to-crypto exchange, according to a press release published August 16.
The new trading platform will be located in Liechtenstein and offer trading between Swiss Francs (CHF) and euros (EUR) against major digital currencies pairs, subsequently adding more trading pairs following regulatory approvals.
Binance will provide and support the platform, while Binance LCX will lead customer support, regulatory compliance, and government communication. Adrian Hasler, Prime Minister of Liechtenstein, commented the launch:

"We are confident that Liechtenstein's existing and future legal framework and practice provide a robust foundation for the Binance LCX and other blockchain companies to provide exceptional services here in Liechtenstein."

2. ASX Head Says New DLT System Could Save Billions

The Australian Securities Exchange could save as much as $23 billion in its effort to replace its settlement system with a distributed ledger, its CEO announced Thursday.
Dominic Stevens, managing director and CEO of ASX Limited – the exchange's operator – explained how using distributed ledger technology (DLT) in place of its existing Clearing House Electronic Subregister System (CHESS), would offer greater efficiency than CHESS does in transmitting messages and accessing information.
At present equity clearing and settlement costs the industry roughly $100 million alone, and the total cost of all communications and other issues to the "super industry" is closer to $23 billion, Stevens said. Moving to DLT "will provide tremendous value by being a great business enabler for our customers, and a significant enabler of innovation for issuers and investors."

3. 110-Year-Old UPS Eyes Blockchain to Streamline Delivery Logistics

Century-old delivery giant United Parcel Service (UPS) believes that blockchain technology could help streamline package delivery logistics across a global supply chain.
According to documents published by the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) on Thursday, the Georgia-based UPS has applied for a patent that utilizes blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) to route packages throughout an international supply chain that may include multiple carriers.
The patent application, which UPS originally filed on Feb. 16, explains that while shipping logistics providers have become quite adept at optimizing package routing to increase efficiency and minimize costs, it is still difficult to coordinate logistics for shipments that involve more than one logistics service provider transportation network.
As the authors explained:

“[T]here may be scenarios in which it is advantageous for various logistics service providers to transport the shipment unit along different legs/segments from its origin to its destination. However, it may be difficult to coordinate the transportation of the shipment unit through the various logistics service provider transportation networks. Moreover, if there are special handling requirements for transporting the shipment unit, it may be difficult to ensure that the special handling requirements are carried through by each of the various logistics service providers that may assist in transporting the shipment unit.”
