Two Days Ago Marked the 50th Anniversary of MLK J, RIP,

in #history6 years ago

So sad Dr. Martin Luther King jr was assassinated 50 years ago. Hopefully someday we realize the amazing vision he had for society. In his last speech to SCLC, 8 months before his assassination, Dr. King asserted:

"we are likely to find that the problem of housing, education, instead of preceding the elimination of poverty, will themselves be affected if poverty is first abolished. The poor, transformed into purchasers, will do a great deal on their own to alter housing decay. Negroes, who have a double disability, will have a greater effect on discrimination when they have the additional weapon of cash to use in their struggle. at 43min 16 sec

Beyond these advantages, a host of positive psychological changes inevitably will result from widespread economic security. The dignity of the individual will flourish when the decisions concerning his life are in his own hands, when he has the assurance that his income is stable and certain, and when he knows that he has the means to seek self-improvement. Personal conflicts between husband, wife, and children will diminish when the unjust measurement of human worth on a scale of dollars is eliminated.

Now, our country can do this. John Kenneth Galbraith said that a guaranteed annual income could be done for about twenty billion dollars a year. And I say to you today, that if our nation can spend thirty-five billion dollars a year to fight an unjust, evil war in Vietnam, and twenty billion dollars to put a man on the moon, it can spend billions of dollars to put God's children on their own two feet right here on earth. "

King went against the failed war in Vietnam and also ended poverty via either a Jobs Guarantee or a Basic Income Guarantee. A few years later a form of a guaranteed minimum income, via Milton Friedman's "Negative Income Tax" was almost implemented by the welfare bureacrats. King also went on to emphasize the importance of nonviolence and the faux pragmatism of riots.

Below is a video my band did a while ago to commemorate these days that continue King's Nightmare of poverty and unending war. Interesting even Edward Snowden seems to have endorsed a BIG.

So sure, taxation is theft and redistribution isn't usually a good idea. But I think the "Luddite Fallacy" that the net amount of jobs doesnt hasnt decreased with technological advance may expire--if it hasn't already as discussed by Jeremy Rifkin in "The End of Work." Various libertarians have discussed forms of guaranteed minimum incomes including FA Hayek and Robert Nozick. Nozick discusses Fourien Redistribution in "Anarchy, State and Utopia" that by having private property and privitizing the commons, interfering with the ability to pasture and homestead unowned land some amount is owed to all.

Even the young of his age,he still managed to have a great impact to the world!

not really, his real goal was totally coopted and silenced over the past 50 years by the military industrial intelligence incarceration complex
