How would you convince someone to do something they didn’t want to do?

You can never really convince someone to do something that they don't want to do. The best you can do is remind them why something is in thier best interest.

If you accomplish this you really haven't convinced them to go against thier own wishes. What you have done is show them other objectives that they wish to accomplish, that perhaps they have forgotten.

If your goal is to get someone to do something that they are set against, perhaps it is better to spend time looking at your own desire to affect someone's behavior. Is it coming from an altruistic perspective? If not, why then?

In the end people will only do the things that they want to. Our best efforts should be spent trying to help ourselves and others manifest our best selves. Convincing someone to do what they don't want to do is pointless in the end.
