A TIME TO REFLECT...#wednesdaywalk #makemesmile

in #wednesdaywalk5 years ago

Happy Wednesday everyone, hope you are enjoying the day.

The morning was beautiful here in St. Augustine Florida, USA. The sun shone and it was a very mild temp of 62 degrees, so much warmer than when I left Upstate NY @9 degrees.

This stop on our way to west coast Florida was not planned. But my friend, who lives in Sarasota, Fla. had just been here and had raved how quaint and inspiring St. Augustine was. So, we decided it was worth a little detour to see what had caught her interest in St Augustine.

History was the lesson, prayer was inspired. This was a place to just look, learn and listen.
To feel peace in my heart, reflect and pray.
So amazing!!

This shrine was very moving to see, the cross was ginormous.

A parklike setting, with lots of History, beautiful statues and a very old cemetery. It was a peaceful walk that inspired reflection.

Two very sweet nuns strolled by with a very cheerful "Good Morning" and "God Bless" and I returned with "Good Morning sisters", I haven't said that phrase in years. Being brought up Catholic and attending Catholic school from K-12th grade, I said it everyday, most of my teachers were nuns, very strict by the way, by also very caring.

My grammar school was named St. Francis of Assisi, after the patron Saint Francis.

My favorite prayer, "The Prayer of St. Francis"...

If all of humanity could only practice even part of what is spoken in this beautiful prayer, just think of the possibilities!

It is in giving, that I share this prayer with you.

Oh man @tattoodjay, St. Augustine is a beautiful place, full of history and so quaint.
Added bonus, very friendly and happy people here.
Love our Wednesdays together, always a pleasure.

That makes it sound even better, if I ever visit Florida again I will have to go and check it out

Most excellent post @farm-mom. It has been many MANY years since I've been to St Augustine, first time was in High School, on an "Art Class" trip, we went to a museum and toured around the city some, stayed in a motel then came back home (I grew up in Mid Ga, so about 5 hrs north of there)
Then just before I graduated, I worked for a few weeks IN THE SUMMER helping to string cable (for Cable TV, no internet back then)...standing on the side of the road helping guide "the Pig"(device that wrapped stiff wire around the tv cable and the support cable) I was looking up of course, looked down when I felt something odd.
I was covered in FIRE ANTS from the knees down!!!
Thank god I was wearing cowboy boots.

Oh boy that sounds fun, NOT. Fire ants can burn ya for sure.
I enjoyed the stop over there though, lots to do, lots to see.
Thanks for stopping in @jerrytsuseer.

Always welcome my friend @farm-mom

You're right about there being lots to do, and you're welcome for the visit ha ha

You know me @farm-mom, I'm not a holy roller by any stretch of the imagination or a disbeliever, just a guy trying to live by my own set of moral principles.
While spending a couple of hours at the site of this old mission, a feeling of peace came over me like never before.
This feeling may have been spurred on by my need to understand the reason why one would take their own life.
