Did You Happen to Catch the "Oscars" Last Night?

in #life6 years ago

Another year done and the Oscars have closed their curtains once more, for now. It was a glitzy and extravagant affair as we've all come to expect by now. I do make it a point to watch the show (even though some may argue that it has lost the majority of relevance that it once had) and must admit, I quite enjoyed it. Stand out movies and moments for me?

Well, I sadly haven't seen a number of the movies that were up for nomination. Titles such as Roma, Green Book and The Favourite are now added to my list of "must see" movies this year, as they do look quite good. I expected A Star is Born to win a little more than it did, however Lady Gaga scooping up "Best Original Score" was a somewhat welcoming nod of appreciation to the film. Not only that, but the duo of herself and Bradley Cooper singing their rendition of "Shallow" onstage, was excellent and very well received by the audience too. The two of them got a little closer than us viewers had imagined they would, however it was all for show and nothing more.

I was also pretty chuffed that Rami Malek got "Best Leading Actor" for his unbelievable transformation as Freddie Mercury in "Bohemian Rhapsody". I thought that was a great movie, celebrating the success of the global phenomenon that is Queen. How they got him to look so much like the pop legend himself, was a testament to the talents behind the production. One side note is that apparently Malek fell offstage just after receiving his award, where paramedics were brought out to treat him, although the fall itself wasn't actually captured by the television cameras. I believe he's fine now though.

The "Best Picture" award winner is a movie that I have to watch now. "Green Book" had me interested when I first heard of the movie's background premise a few months ago, but I had no idea it would go on to be this good. Out of all the other nominees (of which I have seen most of), I do think this seems like a justified victor. But I'd like to clarify that by actually seeing the movie first though, lol. Otherwise, the event seemed like a smooth and memorable affair. No main host was required as the planning and execution of the award ceremony throughout, was of the highest standard.

It was well worth staying up to watch it. I've highlighted but a few standout moments for me, but I would recommend checking out the whole programme, if you get a chance. It is, after all, still regarded as the highest movie accolade any actor, actress or production crew, can ever receive. Nice job guys, on wrapping up yet another great ceremony!

It is a very sad moment for me. Because I missed out last night. But you are right that it has lost its relevancy. But still, it is the most prestigious prize in the glamour world.
