Could Something As Innocent As This Really Offend People?

in #life6 years ago

Bloody Coco Pops. Yeah, that chocolate flavoured toasted cereal snack is in the national media headlines today in the UK. And all because of one slogan that has apparently caused outrage across the country. What could this offending piece of horror possibility be, I dare ask? Coco Pops is so great, it's been "Approved by mums".

Yep, that's it. It has the word "mum" in the sentence. Now, don't get me wrong. I understand that not everybody in this great nation has known what it is like to have been been raised by a mother. There are plenty of single father households out there too. I get that. But why cause such a huge palava over something that could just as easily be interpreted or "imagined" as encompassing all relevant parties?

I mean you, all manner of people bring up kids today in the broken world that it is. Sometimes it can be older siblings. In other instances, a foster carer. Hell, Mowgli's family was a pack of wolves! All jesting aside, my point is "Approved by mums" simply implied that this is the standard of normaility in our society. Which it is! Maybe they should have added an addendum in brackets at the end, "(if applicable)".

I dunno. I get we're living in an age where everybody is trying to please everybody, but it really looks like a game of "let's see who can be discriminated against the worst." Or it could just be me and not giving as much of a damn as other do. But surely there are other more important issues at hand to pre-occupy idle minds with? Like finding ways to assist people with a terminal disease or spending more time with the aged. You know, "real" meaningful and rewarding human interaction. Alas, that is but the stuff of dreams.

Oh well... I guess for now, we're stuck in the land of "Coco Pops".

Whattttt??? Ugh, it really has gotten ridiculous! I just recently learned the term Snowflake, referring to people who are easily offended and super entitled etc. Really whiny and irritating is what I call it!

Lo, "Snowflake". A term we are so familiar with in the UK. Things have got a little crazy here with the PC culture. Glad to know we're on the same team... :)

I really don't get this PC culture sometimes. Everything overdone, well it's overdose
