Neighbours everywhere and different culture rules.

We have arrived in Bianca's city.

And I already forgot what it was like from last time.

It's impossible to walk a hundred meters before a random neighbour strikes a conversation.

At some point Bianca needed to get her medicine and as a ninja she moved from tree to tree avoiding them just to get home in time. (she really needs her medicine).

Such a huge difference from the Netherlands where we just say a fast hello (or nothing).

But the most memorable event happened at the start.

We park the car close to her dad's house and get out.

Within a minute a neighbour (grandma) and granddaughter start talking to her.

They talk in an accent here and I have trouble following the conversation from the start.

But what I don't have trouble with is the huge black spot on the front teeth of the granddaughter.

It looked like a piece of bean skin covering the whole tooth.

It's mesmerising!

Bianca knows me and knows I'm about to say something about it because I would want someone to say something if I looked like I missed a front tooth.

So I get the 'the look'.

I know the look so I just stand there waiting for the conversation to end.

After 5 minutes they say there goodbye's and move on.

I turn to Bianca and say: "did you see that huge thing on her tooth?"

Bianca says, "yes".

So I ask her, why didn't you say anything?

"Because it's considered impolite".

.....eermm....what?

I'm baffled but I accept.

Different culture different rules I guess even though I won't understand this one.

Guess I'll be checking my teeth regularly in the mirror from now on!

Oh my dear friend, if you could laugh at what happened, that is very common in these parts of the world, every time you eat beans, you must be very aware that these things do not happen and that much less are left in your teeth, hahahaha.

By the way, I want to share with you, that I celebrate my first year at Steemit, I leave the link.

Lol, you joker! You just met the girl, man! You can't say something as direct as that, lol! Oh man, I wish you recorded the moment. I'd have had a good laugh. :)

This is were cultures differ man! I can't help it when someone has something huge stuck/on her tooth/teeth to just inform them. But I follow the rules set out by the boss. You know the drill :

Customs are very different in Central and South America! Take some getting used to. In many parts, they have no concept of personal space or privacy! Manners are different but when in doubt, don't say anything. They also take offence easily. The look is better than the elbow to the ribs or the kick to the shins under the table! 🤣

In Sociology this term is commonly known as "Cultural Shock". So, that tooth story and long conversation are basically cultural shocks for you and offcourse for me too @exyle :D :D

Lucky you know Bianca's look so well to save yourself from embarrassment!

Have a fun day tomorrow. 😊

HAHA! “...the look”. @vermillionfox is Laotian and her family is from Laos. I’ve gotten “...the look” for cultural missteps as well. Enjoy your time in Brazil my friend. Very impressive you’ve been able to blog with all the miles and bus rides.

Thanks, with all the tools the blockchain has now it's a lot easier. Steepshot is a blessing for on the road. The look..haha! I guess it's common everywhere!

I do “the face” too! And @cvds listenes too 😂😂

I know the look so I just stand there waiting for the conversation to end.

I think I know the look as well 😆.

Or something like that.

She only has to look, lol.

It's so great, even the Mediterraneans, love chatting and gossiping,we want to know everything and respect no boundaries.

I'm perplexed, what did you want to say to granddaughter about the tooth

Just wanted to say she has something stuck on it. It looked so bad covering the whole tooth and could have been easily removed saving her from further embarrassment.

Hey @exyle are you not tired from your travels man, yea they do speak with a accent it takes a while to get used to it but then you will eventually pick up on what they say, I thought it would be impolite in general to say something? Now I am not sure if I am seeing this from my Portuguese side of things or not lol.

Not in the Netherlands. We would just say: "you have something stuck on your tooth". Bianca does say Dutch people are very direct. I guess it's true but I like it that way.
