 Sandpoint, Idaho—“The Most Beautiful Town”

SandpoinIdaho is the largest city in Bonner County. It is beautiful! It is quaint! In 2011 it was awarded the “Most Beautiful Small Town” award. This was given out by Rand McNally and the USA Today. Sandpoint, Idaho has a downtown area full of small quaint shops. Sandpoint is almost like a gingerbread town in appearance.

Tourism and recreation are two of the major sources of income. It is home to Coldwater Creek, a national woman’s clothing chain. If you like Coldwater Creek and like to browse the re-sale shops, you can find Coldwater Creek garments for under $5.00, some with the tags still on them. Shopping at Coldwater Creek is an experience in its self. This is the main store. It is a huge! The architecture is a log cabin style. Unlike the chain stores, the main store has a nice selection items for the home. Shopping at Sandpoint, Idaho is fun! Coldwater Creek is a delight.

Sandpoint,Idaho sits on the shores of Idaho’s largest lake. Lake Pend Oreille is over 40 miles long and is surrounded by mountains. It is amazingly beautiful. The Cabinet Mountains are home to Idaho’s largest ski resort. The loop leading up to the resort is on the old Wild Horse Trail. The Pend Oreille Scenic Byway also runs through the resort area. If you are looking for fun, check out Schweitzer.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort opened in 1963. It is a first class resort and the skiing is fabulous. It has activities all during the year. Some of the best hiking is in the Selkirk Mountains. There are also many trails on the Cabinet Mountains. Schweitzer Mountain is fun! There is plenty to do on Schweitzer Mountain.

Lake Pend Oreille provides many tours of the lake and water sports are a summer favorite. The hunting in Bonner County is excellent. Horseback riding, water sports, and fishing are also major activities in the area.

The natural beauty of the area is amazing. Lake Pend Oreille is beautiful.  If you are there at the right time, the Huckleberries are large and juicy. Huckleberries are easy and fun to pick. The shores of the Lake Pend Oreille is covered with Huckleberry bushes. It is a pickers paradise.

If you are looking for a vacation spot closer to home, then Sandpoint,Idaho is the place to go. It is one of America’s most scenic places. You can arrive by airplane to Spokane, Washington. There you can rent a car and it is a two hour drive up the panhandle of Idaho. Accommodations are excellent and the prices are really reasonable.  So what are you waiting for?  So pack your bag and get excited! Life is exciting in Sandpoint, Idaho.

I lived in Sandpoint, my aunt and her family still do. It is in my opinion, one of the most beautiful parts of the US. I miss the moose, deer, elk and bears.

I lived in Sandpoint for about a year. My next-door neighbor was a chronic drunk and would have arguments (usually with real people) outside my apartment door at 2 AM.

I'm not sure I would want to live in that town again, but they have a nice library, and more grocery store options now. The highway 95 bypass has made driving a lot safer and easier now. It's a bike-friendly area. If you ski, Schweitzer is a good place to be in winter. The lake is good for fishing.
