#109: Mugged
“STOP! Hand ups. Gimme yo money!” someone said.
Yvette said “Oh please. Can we really be so lucky?”
“I ain’t kidding. Gimme yo money or I cap yo ass.” The unknown voice said.
Yvette said “Yesssss.‘The lord helps those who help themselves’ Thank you lord. We’re helping ourselves.”
“Say there.” Joshua said as he stepped toward the thuglet. Josh noticed that he was surrounded. There were several other thuglets closing in on him. They were so cute. They were like little puppies who thought that they were wolves. “Is that a Glock 19 you have there? A Gen One? Those are kinda rare. Mind if I take a closer look at it?”
“I’m gonna give you a close look at it all right” the young thug said…raising the gun.
The cop spoke with the EMT. “Strangest thing I’ve seen in a couple of years. These guys called US begging for protection. I only heard of that happening ONCE and it’s been a long long time since then. Old Shelby became a legend that day. I wonder what ever happened to that old coot? I kinda miss him.”
The EMT looked at the moaning gang banger. “They did? It looks like you didn’t get there in time.”
The cop replied. “But I tried so HARD”…he sipped a bit of coffee from his thermos and made a face “eww…cold.”
“I just bet you did. “ The EMT grinned. “ So how do we play this? Are you following us to the Hospital to arrest these…uh…fine young gentlemen ?”
“Naw. They must be out of their tiny little minds or on drugs or something. They spun a tale that was beyond strange. Something about dragons. I stopped listening about then.” The cop said.
“Oh yeah?” the EMT said “what kind of dragons? Chinese or Norse?”
“I doubt if these guys would have a clue. They said the dragons were little, spit fireballs and ate fingers.” The Cop said. “I’ll follow along behind to insure they don't’ get frisky, but I don’t think I’ll arrest them. Too damn much paperwork.”
“Works for me” the EMT said.
A small convoy of ambulances and cop cars rolled sedately toward the hospital.
A small dragon….fly…hovered in place, watching them leave. Joshua watched through the dragon’s eyes. No one paid any attention to insects....even in winter.
...and that was just odd. People were strange.
Later
Inside one of the rooms
Yvette said “I can’t believe you let them GO! You didn’t kill anyone!”
Joshua inspected the Glock 19. Nasty. It didn’t appear to have EVER been cleaned. According to the received wisdom on the internet, any other gun besides a Glock would probably jam if it was as dirty as this one was. A Glock would probably still shoot. Glock's tended to ‘just work’…no matter what. Too bad the guy had pointed it at him. He’d been rushed a bit and the dragon had taken a finger.
Yvette said “All that lovely protein. You just let them take it away. Do you know how much carbon there is in protein?”
Josh decided to clean the Glock. What did he know about guns anyway. He’d never owned one. He cocked his head for a minute in deep thought.
“Hang on lover” Yvette said “ Ok...catch”.
Josh felt a slug of information splash into his mind. Suddenly he knew a great deal about Glocks. Wasn’t the internet great? His own personal Daemon made it even better.
“Uh…no. I have no idea how much carbon is in protein. I’ve never thought about it actually. I suppose I could look it up?” He said.
Yvette said “ Or I could Info-bomb you. It’s a lot. Some of the other chemicals. I could have used also.”
Josh had first dropped the magazine and racked the slide. A small dragon had caught the ejected round out of the air. It was sitting on the bed post intently watching. Then Josh took the gun apart for cleaning. He took it apart like a pro, as if he’d been doing it for years. Today was the first time he’d ever held a pistol in his hands, info-dumps were GREAT!
“What would we have done with them all?” Josh asked. “How many of them was there? Four? Five? Could you have disposed of five bodies?”
Yvette said “Not a problem. We’d have been RICH on carbon. I’d have converted all that carbon to SSmoke. That would have taken 18% of the gross weight right there. Of course I’d have used some of the other trace materials as need be, like I said, so maybe that would have been 2% Of the remaining 80%, 75% is Oxygen and Hydrogen. The last five percent is Calcium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sulphur and a few other trace elements. They would flush down the toilet easily enough, or ride on the breeze as dust..”
“I can’t believe you let it all get away. All I got was a finger or two, a few bites was all. It tasted nasty too. I can only wonder where those fingers have been. Oh...I got a few quarts of blood too.” she sniffed.
“Oh well…easy come. Easy go. “ Josh said then “Damn. You know this Glock is the only gun they had that had half a chance of being workable? No thanks to them? All the other weapons that they had are just….just…..EeeeyaH!”
Josh threw up his hands in disgust. He was a geek. He HATED to see machines abused, all the more so since he’d fortified himself with info-dumps.
“If I’d known that they treated their weapons so poorly…I’d probably have let you eat them.” He said.

I'm

I write
SPECULATIVE FICTION
I have books on Amazon too.
Sometimes I also comment on the news
Sometimes it's hard to tell fiction from the news.
Sometimes I feel like I could use an info dump, but my daemon would no doubt pick pictures of rosie o'donnell to info dump me with. God what a horrible thought. I'm just trying to figure out why Joshua would want the gun. I mean he has a whole army of little dragons to play with.
he's a born mechanic...a mecho-geek...he likes fine mechanisms..
Wow awesome.... I'm so happy I got to read this.
Thanks for this post.
Wooooooonderful content (y)
Upvote and resteem done.
Cold hard reality if ever your Avatar ever decides it is more beneficial to recycle some human beings :P
ah...young glasshoppah
you missed out or forgot the discussion of what the avatar IS.
basically it's a split personality...
two minds...one brain.
Uncorruptible like a blockchain? What happens if there is mental dissidence?
reasonable people agree to disagree. Yvette and Josh would work it out. seems pretty simple to me. While they are like a split personality, I see them as a rising from a different process than the classic abuse trauma induced split.
Thanks for the idea of reading this on your mobile. That had not occurred to me. now I will get through this faster also get less done.
Regards,
Rick
