As @dragonslayer109 would say, 'Grow With Your Community When It Matters Most Or Risk Isolation Within Steemit Community': The Best Lesson I Ever Learnt.
Hello Steemians..
Happy Sunday. I trust you all have a good time. In your Sunday outing and merriment, remember there's is a responsibility awaiting your attention; that's the task of attending to your Steemit blog. Hahahahahsh... Well that's by the way.
In my last blog post, I told you of a mentorship class I was opportuned to attend at @bluewave project class hosted by duo of @ogochukwu and @dragonslayer109. In that class I learnt two things: one was how to comment on a post to get attention, which was thoroughly simplified by @ogochukwu. I taught this in my last blog post and those who read that post can attest to how rich the content is. And I did promise to talk about what I learnt from @dragonslayer109 in my next post, which happens to be this one.
The Second Lesson I Learnt: Stick With Your Immediate Community & Grow With Them - said @dragonslayer109
The above subheading constitutes the crux of what I learnt from @dragonslayer109. It is important, however, to point out that that day was not the first time I had heard such advice. But no doubt, that was the day its significance was demonstrated with such an unambiguous trenchant that even a day old baby would have understood it. The first person I ever heard that from was @gbenga and then @destinysaid.
Permit me to use Nigeria to illustrate something here. Nigeria is a country consisting of 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT). It would be difficult...in fact, close to impossible if not impossible, for Federal government to appoint a person from a given state as, say, a federal minister if the person's activities within his state have not been positively Impactful. You first start with your local government. As your activities within your local government are being positively felt, your local government leaders would recommend you to state government when there is a need for such.
When your performance at state level is impressive enough, it would certainly draw the attention of the Governor Who would, in turn, recommend you for federal appointment when the need arises. That's the proper order of climbing the ladder of success in politics most times. I am not saying this happens at all times. But most times, that's the order. It certainly would be very difficult to get federal attention without first being a recognized face at state level.
Comparing to what is obtained here in Steemit, you can pinpoint the chief reason most newbie Steemians don't last long in the program. Why? They want to cut corners. Out of their inordinate ambition, they would leave their immediate community and go about chasing whales. While they are away, Steemians who are faithful to their community would keep interacting among themselves, internalizing the usernames of one another and growing together.
By the time the fugitive Steemian who went about chasing whales returns home, he becomes a stranger. No one upvotes his works because the community no longer recognize him. He becomes a complete stranger. And when he cannot bear seeing people he joined the program with earning several folds more than him, he lose interest and calls it a quit. And unfortunately, no one cares.
Stop chasing the money and start chasing the passion
— Tony Hsieh
According to @dragonslayer109, if 100 minnows with 100 Steem Power upvote themselves, the earning on a post would certainly be significant. But most minnows don't understand this; they would rather go on unproductive whale chasing and in the process, lose contacts with their immediate community. And unfortunately, when they realize their mistakes, it is already late as the community will have moved on without them.
Know this truth: as it is almost impossible to get recognition at federal level without having first being a recognized face at state level, so is with Steemit. If you want whales to come for you as against you go to them, then fashion a way to make positive impact within your community. Stay with your community, grow with them; let your activities impact them positively. Whales are pillars of Steemit social capital program. They are always online to monitor activities and would certainly spot you.
Dolphins know dolphins; orcas know orcas; Whales know whales; but minnows with inordinate ambition would rather seek to belong to these exalted positions in one month to earn big without making any contribution to the community. Well, life doesn't work that way.
The earlier you learn to face your community, the better for you. Otherwise, you risk Isolation in near future. Thanks
