Oddball Collection Pieces
Everyone at some point in their lives starts some sort of collection. A way to lock pieces of the past in a sort of time capsule to look back on any time you pick the item up or think about it. I have had many collections over the years, one of them being coins. Coins vary all around the world. They are made from different materials, they come in different sizes and shapes and some have monetary value while others do not.
Most of the coins in private collections consist of mainly 1 of 3 types of coins. They are normally either gold, silver or they have a face monetary value. Gold and silver coins are valued by their metal content and the artwork that makes up each coin. Monetary coins have most of their value based on condition and year.
There are also coins that mark events around the world like the world fair or different art displays in museums. Many people even collect coins from different places they visit to hold the memory of that location. These types of coins could be from things like Disney world, toll bridges, subway stations and for newer parents and children they could be as simple as special quarter shaped coins from places like Chucky Cheese's.
There are way too many different types of coins to really tell you about all of the different types. Today I wanted to show you the oddest coin I personally have in my collection. I found this coin in an antique shop about 20 years ago. It is a coin that display's the two uses for the medication Etrafon. I have no idea when it was made or where it was handed out. I think it is either made from bronze or copper. I will never know as it is encased in a solid plastic block like a paperweight.
What is Etrafon?
Etrafon (perphenazine and amitriptyline) is a combination of an antipsychotic medication and a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat depression occurring with other mental/mood disorders (such as anxiety, agitation, schizophrenia).
What is the oddball piece in your collection?
