Trip to Kyustendil cherry festival [photography]steemCreated with Sketch.

The past weekend has been one of the best 2 days in recent memory!

After a long and busy day at the office my weekend finally started and I was heading home to pick up my backpack and see a Belgian friend, who returned to Bulgaria for a couple of days to see friends, explore business interests and check out the Bitaka again. A bit later I was picked up by some other friends to go on a bike trip together.

Bitaka is the gypsy flea market in Sofia. It's an amazing place if you want to experience a culture shock or find anything and everything you can think of finding at a flea market, and then a bit more.

I am planning to do a full post about the Bitaka later.

After waking up where we had set up camp, we headed to our parking spot in Zemen and started cycling from there. our destination was Kyustendil where a local cherry festival was going on. This is a part of Bulgaria very much known for its cherries.

According to Strava we traversed 50KM of mountainous landscape, a lot of climbing, sweating, beautiful scenery and amazing downhill fun.

At the Festival there was cherries, artworks made out of cherries, songs about cherries, a handwork gallery and market, live music, good food and did I say cherries?

We managed to end up in a hotel on the hills behind Kyustendil where one of the most important fortresses of the first and second Bulgarian stood. There was also a very cute little zoo which housed a glorious peacock, among other animals.

Strolling over the market I found an amazing flute made from bamboo which I had to take after giving it a try. It makes beautiful sounds.

This morning we got up early to catch the train back to Sofia, which was very relaxing.
Because I was up so early I was able to take this amazing shot of the sun coming over the mountains.
Bulgaria is such a beautiful land.

Thanks @flipstar, I guessed that something was up with your comment.

This whole weekend was kind of a spontaneous thing, that's what I mean with radical action. I have to smile every time I think about it.

Wow! We are going there next for and go to the other village for the Summer festival. I went back to my old introduction post and saw your warm welcome there( when i was lost in steemit and still confused with this platform but learning day by day.)

Nice articles you got here. See you around.
